Possible to source gen crystal for DSSD?

Hi guys just wondering if it's possible to source a gen crystal for a DSSD. Haven't seen one come up at Rolex forums at all. Neither on eBay.


Also wondering if anyone has a Franken with gen crystal. If so how did you manage to do it and is there a big difference between the rep and gen?


Any input will be appreciated.

My Noob DSSD version 3-4 circa 2009 has a fantastic Crystal that is even with bezel and goes up just slightly into slight dome. Funny how they got the bezel almost perfect on this old model, and the Crystal, and the bracelet SEL and EZ glide of good quality but they botched the fonts on the Gas Escape valve and parts of the dial. For a $160 cartel watch that came out about a year after the Gen DSSD, it has some amazing parts. 6 years old and keeps time almost as well as a Swiss Quartz. Hasn't needed servicing either. When it does I will use the parts to supplement latest model. The case body is all wrong but probably could be machined close though for the cost the newest version is a better play.

Finding a DSSD Rolex sapphire will take some serious digging. Do you have any sources that work for ADs or Rolex servicing?

From just the basic inexpensive 2009 rep, I wouldn't mod the rep Crystal as it's almost dead on. I don't know how the modern noob looks or the other factories.

Just that the crystal will probably cost you more than the watch and may or may not fit the rep.

I'm tempted too. Bit beyond my reach right now. Not sure how much difference it would make from the rep crystal though.

Plus I am in Australia mate.. Our dollar value has gone down drastically!! I am very tempted but I need to know if its gonna fit!!

2014 DSSD has the gen bezel assembly. Also it has the gen spec. It can be almost a simple swap to the gen bezel.

2015 DSSD also has the gen bezel assembly...HOWEVER, noob changes the spec on the mid-case and it won't fit the gen bezel anymore.

Rolex is enforcing all DSSD crystals to be changed ONLY in rolex services centre so no one can order that particular parts to change/repair by themselves. It is extremely rare to see one in the wild. If you could afford it, get the one from chrono24. I was on the fence as well but the price is really high...

Also I have seen a franken (and sold) here before which has a gen crystal installed so it is possible...but I forgot which version of it...

I just bought a GEN DSSD Bezel & Insert. I know you've said that NOOB change the mid case so it won't fit. Is there a REP case that will allow the bezel to fit on without needing modding?

The Noob 2014 DSSD midcase has the spec closest to the gen. My modder told me it still needs a simple mod to fit the gen bezel. Just don't get the Noob 2015 DSSD (V2?) for your franken build...

I was on the same path...

I bought a Noob BK 2015 DSSD and sent to my modder, together with the gen bezel/insert. After my modder removed the bezel, he confirmed me that the gen bezel doesn't fit on the case.

So I needed to get a Noob 2014 DSSD from m2m and sent to my modder instead.

I talked to another member at the neighbor forum and he also encountered the same issue with the Noob 2015 DSSD case...So I don't think I am the unlucky one with a bad 2015 noob case...

There is really no knowing with the noob cases. Early batch of 2014 deepsea could accept gen bezel. Somewhere along the lines that changed. Now the 2015 cases are built like gen, meaning the actual construction of the case. Things separate just like gen but they are not 1:1 Your best bet is to remove the gen insert and install it on rep bezel. That I know for sure can be done. Second more risky option, machine the bezel retainer ring. Rep is too thick and doesnt let the gen bezel to slide over. If you can machine the rep retainer ring, then you can fit gen bezel. Last and almost impossible option, finding a gen retainer ring. This piece is also not available and you probably would never find it. Gen retainer ring is thinner than rep and will work with rep case and gen bezel.

I really wish I knew this before spending $900 on a genuine ceramic bezel and insert! I'll have to keep an eye out for the 2014 case set now...

Wow I really want the crystal now but it's damn expensive. Also wondering who would be able to do the mod?

Bro id think you be money ahead just getting a double AR on your stock crystal, unless there is something wrong with it now.

That much money for something no one is going to notice? It's your dosh mate but I don't see the point.
