So only a few days after ordering my first rep (it's not even here yet) it's been brought to my attention that the genuine watch (it's a PAM164 which has long been my dream watch) is on sale pre-owned and reconditioned not far from where I live.

I've done all my sums and I can just about afford it, this will probably be the only gen purchase I ever make (owned a Tag years ago but had to let it go) and so if I go ahead with it I want to make sure it's worth the money.

The most recent retail price I could find (from over on Paneristi) for the UK is £5100, the watch (it's a 2011 model) is on sale reconditioned with a box and papers for £4250.

Here's a link to the page: http://watchfinder.co.uk/Panerai/Luminor Marina/PAM00164/3782/item/43584

Can anyone shed any light on whether or not this is a decent price for the watch?

Also is it rude to haggle in a store like that? As I said if I go ahead with it this would be a one off purchase for me, I don't normally shop in places like this so not really sure how to approach it.

TIA for any advice offered, especially from anyone with experience buying gens.

Well as For me not knowing much about PAMs, I'd say it's a good Price and hence it being a preowned piece it should be okay to haggle.
I'd go for it! :)

Watchfinder are shit would never recommend them, there has been cheaper than this at tz but you need so many posts to get into sales section, if you feel its right for you go for it!

Personally I'd stay away from watchfinder unless you can really haggle a lot more than that but good luck! Give the Paneristi public forum a go too

Hey Thanks! I just bought it! They worked with me a bit and took a bit off to account for the import duties i'd pay, shipped internationally.

Just kidding :)

Seems like watchfinder is probably not the way to go then. Thanks for the heads up both of you. Shame but as I say will only buy once so want to get the best deal I can.

LOL. It had occurred to me that this might happen but thought I'd better ask as I'm clueless about all this stuff really. I'm glad I did now too...

We're all usually pretty good on not jumping into other peoples deals, lol. unfortunately, I'm not much of a PAM guy, so I cant give much advice other than it seems lower and more reasonable than many other gen PAM's I've seen. Good luck with it mate and if you buy it, wear it in good health.

This is a matter of personal preference but, in my opinion, the 164 is repped so well I wouldn't bother with gen. Of course, if the 164 is your "end-all-be-all" watch, then go for it. But as most have said I think you can find just as good a price if not better with a more reputable seller. If I were you I'd keep an eye out on risti and trf. Good luck!

Thanks for that, I'll be keeping half an eye on Paneristi in that case. I actually have the rep (it's my first one and just arrived today) and you're right it looks perfect to my untrained eye, the strap lets it down but I'd read enough to be expecting that. It's going off for a servicing straight away so hopefully it'll keep working for a nice long time. I have some nice straps/buckles on the way to use with it too.

The 164 has been the watch I've wanted for years and I've actually saved for it twice before and had to spend the money on more important things although the more I look around the more I'm finding other models I like just as much. Just seemed poetic that it popped up today when I've just bought the rep and been reading about watches constantly for the last couple of weeks.

That's 3 of you though now that have said I can do better price wise and that the seller is best avoided so I'll definitely give it a miss this time. I'll keep half an eye on Paneristi and if one comes up at a better price then maybe I'll go for it then.

Thanks again for the input everybody.

There are plenty of nice Pams out there! Lots of variety!
Funny how that works, isn't it? :)

And I agree with Vbmrk.... Try a nice strap (or a couple) on your rep and see if the rep is "good enough" for you.... It most likely will be ;)
But if it's not, buy a gen of it! There will be more out there eventually! Good luck my friend.

I think you could get a new one from gray dealers with similar price. Maybe slightly more expensive, but in new cond.

Tell me about it, I'm eyeing a 000 and a 438 already, this is definitely going to get out of hand! Will not be buying this one, if it's meant to be then one'll pop up some time down the road, maybe I won't want the same watch by then anyway. Besides which, I like these watches because they're beautiful, not because they're expensive and as already stated, there's a super rep of this one which I already have so probably not the wisest use for my savings account right now.

I have several straps and some buckles on the way to try with the rep so you can expect a photoshoot some time in the near future. :biggrin-new:
