I don't think anyone has shared a build diary before for a Yachtmaster, so here is my build diary.
Build specs
- Gen platinum dial
- Gen hands
- Gen date disc
- Gen crystal
- Gen bezel assembly (bezel, bezel insert, crystal retainer, washer, click spring)
- Aftermarket 116610 hytrel ring
- VSF 116622 base watch
Firstly, remove the bracelet, open the caseback, remove the stem, and remove the movement.
Secondly, remove the stock dial/ hands/ date disc. Then replace the stock date disc with a gen 3135 date disc. All date flips are tested at 00:00 because the date can sometimes cling (even for genuine or aftermarket 3135 date discs).
Thirdly, install the gen dial and gen hands. The gen platinum dial is noticeably heavier than the normal/ usual Rolex dials.
The VSF case set uses a triplock-style tube, which is welcomed.
Fourthly, remove the stock bezel assembly. There is grease applied to the bezel assembly from the factory, so use goo-gone (or similar cleaning products) to remove the grease.
Gen bezel (left) vs VSF bezel (right). The gen bezel is noticeably heavier due to the platinum.
Gen bezel (right) vs VSF bezel (left).
Gen click spring (right) vs VSF click spring (left).
When turning the gen bezel (with gen bezel assembly components), the action feels much more precise without any wobble.
When turning the stock VSF bezel (with stock bezel assembly components), the action feels less precise and a bit mushy.
Fifthly, install the internals into the watch case.
Sixthly, install the hytrel ring (116610 hytrel ring works) and the gen bezel assembly.
Done! Here is my first superfranken Yachtmaster that I have ever built. Finished and regulated.
