Hi everyone,

i´ve been out of the rep world for several years, son I´m out of date.
Likes very much the Pam392 (42mm looks better in my small wrist),

could you recommend to mw which one is the best rep I can buy (and where)?

As it is a through wiew backcase I suppose that movements are not really similar to Parnerais, but What is the best looking (and reliable9 one?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Currently the PAM392 has been waiting for a movement update as there is already a gen-looking P.9000 movement available (not yet a gen-functional and gen-looking movement but that may be a bit later). However, the newer and slightly slimmer PAM1392 using the P.9010 movement has already been repped. The ZF factory release was just introduced last July with the balance wheel @11 because of the base A7750 movement (this time it's correct, the P.9000 had the balance wheel @7), the V6F release was fine but the seagull movement it used placed the balance wheel @6. Sample link (you can give your favorite TD the link for them to source the same watch for you):

Thanks a lot for the wonderfull explanation.
I didn't realized that 392 and 1392 had a different case thickness and movement, I thought the only difference was the seconds hand colour!

Well the blue seconds hand was probably a marketing ploy because nobody measure case thickness nor even cares if there is a new movement (especially if you're only buying one PAM, for gen owners anyway). So how does one distinguish the new PAMs? The seconds hand is painted in the signature Officine Panerai blue. ;)

As mysterio suggested, go for the 1392 from ZF, it's slightly thinner than the 392 and has a better looking rep movement. I can relay my own experience as I have one and am very satisfied with it.

Lugs and case were inaccurate ("stubby lugs") in the first version. Since then the issue has been corrected. Only flaw remaining is thickness (15.5 in rep vs 13.5 in gen) due to the use of a new, thinner in-house movement in the gen.

Dunno where you've been reading. But here are the facts. (I got the pictures from a non-TD here but I got them from there because it had all 3 versions).

V6F Sept. 2016

V6F Dec. 2016

ZF July 2017

So you can see, both of the latest versions of the ZF and the V6F PAM1392 have the same longer and slimmer lugs. The original V6F had the short stubby lugs which were corrected in 3 months. So just watch out for the lug shape and you should be fine.

Now what you have to look out for is the movement. The latest V6F (Dec. 2016) has two movement versions (pictures from Puretime because all the movements on the other website are all A7750 based),

1) Aesthetically correct one based on the A7750 with the balance wheel @11
pam2017072904-14.jpg

2) Cheaper one with the ST2555 or A23J movement, sometimes called the "Lite" version with the balance wheel @6
pam2016120702-10.jpg

Now these are both not functioning as per gen P.9010 but if looks are important to you (since you care about the lugs) then the A7750 version is the way to go. You should mention that to your TD. PAM1392 with the long and slim lugs with the A7750 movement moded to look like the P.9010. I hope everything is clear now. :)

I'll add that ZF only uses the a7750 in this model

They may use it only now but we can't dictate to the factories what they can and can't use. Better specify the movement instead so it's clear.

The same reason you can buy the same car for different pricing from different car dealerships. It's just plain capitalism at work. Take note that it's not consistent. Some watches may cost the same for both sites, or may be the other way around (PT>IT), Also sometimes you trade off another thing for lower prices. That's why, like when buying most anything else, you should shop around.

I don't have any opinion on it as I've never looked into the model. But Grimlocktime has a good opinion on this model and he does builds a lot.
