I know that this is not the best base in the world to start from...but I'd like to work with what I've got and make it a little better. I realize it will never be a GREAT replica because it's got the completely wrong movement in it...but being a non display back model I'm more worried about the cosmetics of the watch.

Out of the box it's not horrible though...OK AR coating, OK dial print, no recessed pin problem. I'm thinking about simply doing a lume upgrade and having a palp crown installed.

But I'm just an amateur at this and want your input. Is there anything else that's glaringly obvious that's worth taking care of on this watch while I'm having it modded?

well, for a watch with an asian 21j movement I don't know that I'd spend the money for a palp crown unless you planned on moving it over to a nicer watch at some point, but if you think you might want to try doing some lume, you could try it. It'll be really hard on this watch.

I'm sure I could move the palp crown to another watch at some point in time as long as the stem diameter is the same. This was my first rep ever so I'm kinda attached to it which is the reason for modding.

I'm looking to have a Davidsen or TWP 111h in the collection soon so that I've got a fairly accurate piece...just want to improve this one becuase I don't ever see getitng rid of it.

p.s. the mods will not be done by myself.

Are you sure there is no cannon pin problem? From the angles, it's hard to tell.

Here is a small list:

Crown
Crown Guard
Crown Guard lever mod
Lume
Dial Font color correction
Better strap ;)
Movement servicing (even Asian movements can benefit from this)

Yup...positive there's no recessed pin issue.

You have to give me a little slack...at least I didn't leave the crapy rep strap on it...it's got a Bob Marino 24/24 black calf on it...but have been admiring your work lately.

Is the crown guard necessary to replace if I'm doing a crown?

And the lever mod...are you talking about squaring it off instead of it being slightly rounded?

Could you post a better pic of the cannon pin? Please? :)

The CG is pretty much necessary on any rep. Even with a new Crown.

The Crown lever mod can be various things, but I was reffering to making it more stiff like the gen.

This reason this doesn't need a cannon pinion upgrade is because it's a 21j asian automatic movement. They have no problem in that area. But I definitely wouldn't bother servicing it...the movement costs $15-20 new. I have the same watch that I relumed (poorly). You can find it if you search. It makes a great beater watch, but for one without even an asian manual movement I just wouldn't put anything into it that you couldn't transfer to another watch sometime down the line. Maybe the crown and guard.
