Pleasantly surprised to discover?
Watch Man of Steel Online I don’t need to tell you where I’ll be when the film releases on July 12, but I will. I’ll be in the theater, watching the scene below and feeling my cinematic insides go all ooey-gooey. Hopefully it wasn’t the chili from the nachos. With his new film Pacific Rim, director Guillermo del Toro has done more than told a simple story- he’s created an entirely new sci-fi/fantasy world. It’s a cinematic universe where an inter-dimensional portal has ripped open on the floor of the ocean and has begun spilling out giant, horrific monsters called Kaiju that threaten to tear the world apart, leaving the human race to begin the construction of skyscraper-sized robots called Jaegers to fight them off. It’s a world filled with new technologies, new social order and new economic possibilities – for example, the sale of Kaiju organs as holistic medicines.
Watch Iron Man 3 Online Now, it focuses more on humans than other ones, but humans are definitely not the central issue here. This is still a very action-oriented, robots ‘n’ monsters bash-em-up preview, filled with Hunnam’s narration and trailer-ready lines like “Let’s do this!†And while I sincerely hope that the human element prevails amidst all the rampant destruction, I still don’t think it’ll be as gloomy an affair as similar destrouction in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. Maybe because it seems to take place at night, where you can’t see all the death.
Watch After Earth Online So did I expect this final trailer, courtesy of iTunes Movies, to be the most successful of the bunch? Hell no I didn’t. I thought it would just be a simple rehashing of everything we’ve seen before. And while it necessarily is filled with previously-seen footage, this is definitely a human-centered preview, teasing us with Charlie Hunnam’s initiation into the Defense Corps and focusing more on what it takes for these guys to inhabit the giant Jaeger robots, and how the public reacts to their heroics. Even the inner turmoil that will of course exist when this much testosterone is directed towards one goal.
Watch Star Trek into Darkness Online I don’t think I can possibly be disappointed with the end result, especially when the above trailer seems to be the most well-rounded of the bunch. Last year’s Comic-Con gave the world the film’s first footage, but it wasn’t until the first trailer released in December that Legendary decided to unleash the multimedia marketing beast, barraging fans, potential fans and complete unknowns with trailers, posters, and websites, stopping just short of unearthing one of the film’s enormous Kaiju creatures and making him sign autographs.
Watch Spring Breakers Online Those Ender's Game fans attending SDCC later this month will want to get to the Summit Booth and/or the Ender's Game Exclusive Fan Experience if they want to get their hands on some of the official EG swag that's being handed out. That includes the lapel pins in the above photo. Enders News shared photos of the loot that will be available at the Summit Booth at Comic-Con this year. As you can see with the lapel pins, and the "Static Clings" in the photo below, Summit's making good use of the Army logos and mascots for they imagery. Ender's Game centers on Ender Wiggin (Asa Butterfield), a kid recruited to attend a space-set Battle School where gifted children are training to fight in the coming ware against an alien race. During their training, the kids are broken up into various armies, represented by animal names like salamander, rat and dragon. In addition to the Ender's Game logo, and the sight of Ender's back as he faces the Battle Room, which was used for the first official poster, the pins and clings feature the previously released Army logos, as well as the International Fleet logo.
Those same images are featured on the dog tags that will be made available to those who check out the Ender's Game Fan Experience, which will be set up outside the Hilton Gaslamp during the convention, and will allow fans to visit 8 different rooms, each of which represents a different iconic environment in Ender's world. Check out the rest of those over at Ender News. As an online writer, I get attacked by Internet commenters on a regular basis, and I realize that some of it could be avoided if I wouldn’t just assume people know where I’m coming from when I say certain things. I can say that a movie I adore isn’t the best film on a critical level, and some people can’t understand the separation between objectivity and subjectivity; but it's my fault for not explaining things properly. So before shit gets twisted, know that I don’t give a hoot nor a holler about general consensus on Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim, even though I have my own personal doubts. But my expectations for this film are so pleasantly compacted and organized.
This afternoon I was pleasantly surprised to discover that Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures had sent me a special package in promotion of Pacific Rim, celebrating one of the coolest details of the movie. After tearing open the cardboard box the package was sent in, I discovered a fairly large, metal suitcase with no distinct markings on the outside.
