It's been just over a week since I took delivery of my first replica, purchased from Joshua at Perfect Clones, as my contact in Kuala Lumpur did not have the orange bezel 42mm.

I went for the Asian 4813 movement, having read that they are quite reliable and even if they do break, they're $20 to replace... I hope it will be fine though. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dNo10ULlaQ"]I've included a video of the hand moving across the dial here. [/ame]

The service from Josh was fantastic - he replied to my emails within minutes and was very helpful. The watch is working well, although I am handling it very tenderly!

Everything feels very solid, from the clasp to the bracelet to the bezel. The double AR is very strong and blue and I think it's very eye-catching. The lume is single-tone ok strength, but it would be lovely to get it done properly with blue and green. I may try that myself. I'm thoroughly enjoying the watch so far. As a piece of jewellery in its own right it's fantastic, as a replica of an Omega it's very accurate so for me it's a big thumbs up.

It has been keeping good time so far. I gave it a full wind to begin with and it seems to have lost/gained fewer than the 8 seconds per day the test suggested. I will evaluate after one month and see, but I'm very happy overall.

I found this video of what seems to be a genuine version of the watch and to me it doesn't seem that much smoother... though mine is perhaps a little jittery?

Also I'm not sure if the watch at the end of this advert by omega is real or CG but...

maybe its an effect of the refresh rate of a computer screen? in real life, the sweep of the gen is VERY smooth

I have a swiss 2824 in my FrUpo and again it can be compared to the perfect swap of the 2500 caliber... I am not an expert movement, the only thing i know is that 2500 is working at 25200bph (they changed it as the escapement wheel works better) while mine works on 28800bph...

Are you comparing the gen sweep to a 21j 4813 movement? Asian 2836? Swiss ETA/Sellita?

My Sellita movements are slightly noticeably smoother than my Asian 2836 watches. I don't have any 21j movements, but I'd guess there'd be a difference there as well, even though the bph frequency is the same.

I think movements that are higher quality and lubricated better would have a smoother sweep. On a movement that is low quality or less lubricated, the resistance in the gears would cause the second hand not to move until enough force is built up to push it 1/8th of a degree. Perhaps this might cause a 1/32 second extra pause, or even a 1/16 second delay in each tick, which makes it seem more jerky. On a higher quality or well lubed movement, less force is required to push the gears that drive the second hand, so there would be less of a delay in each tick.

That's all guesswork on my part of course. Nothing to do with any experience or google searches, so I could be talking out of my ass.

It is because a DG4813 or DG2813 are only beating at 21600 bph(beats per hour) as opposed to the real thing at 25,200bph. The high beat 7750 and 2824's beat at 28,800bph, so they will be even more smooth that the gen planet ocean. Probably couldn't tell much difference between a 21k and 25k, but between 28k and 21k there is a noticeable difference. Also consider how large the watch is. Comparing a 42mm to a 45mm will be a difference too. The longer the second hand, the more jumpier it will appear. For example, on my A6497 movement in my rep pam, it is only firing at 18,000bph, but the second hand is to tiny, it actually looks smoother than my rep 42mm PO!

Only half right. The DG2813 beats at 21600bph, but the DG4813 beats at 28800bph. Other than that, I'm pretty sure they're identical. I think all the current POs use the high beat DG4813.

Also, that doesn't really explain why Asian ETAs seem choppier than genuine Swiss ones.

Raji,
That is correct, I meant to say the 2813 is 21,600 and the 4813 is 28800. But actually, in the video's above, the rep looks as smooth as the gen to me. But to really see the difference, you'd need to hold them in your hand. But I'm pretty sure if you were holding the 45.5mm version of the gen, and a 2813 of a 42mm, you would probably not see much difference. But if you had the 42mm version of the gen against the 45mm of the 4813 then you would see a difference. But I don't have the gen to compare, so only speculation.
