Pictorial Review - Pam 088 Noob 'O' Series as Landed

Been a bit busy since this landed late last week. A few are beginning to show up now across the forums. There was some initial concern over the CP cap, but I have a pretty good one here and am happy with that. The only small issue OOB is the raised CG pin, but this is an easy fix.

I specified it on the brown croc and deploy, as I wanted the Noob polished deploy for use with my OEM black croc and thought I would check out the strap quality ;)

I plan to mod the CG pin shortly and will update the thread later with new pics to illustrate.

Opinions on the watch -

Awesome quality, fit and finish
Excellent replication - best 088 to date by far I expect
Things to do - finish and seat the CG pin - otherwise nothing
Incredible lume application and strength
Very happy with the crystal, date mag ( a touch over perhaps?) and cyclops
Fired up the movement when handled, running strong and accurate OOB

If you like the GMT dial - buy it! :D

Be sure to read the excellent comparison to Gen review on Wrist-Check written by NakorTheBlue - he motivated me to empty my PP account again!

Later in the week I will shoot some pics on alternative, more 'casual' strap choices also.

Nice CP...

The Rep croc is NO comparison to the OEM croc - probably best to specify this on a Noob rubber and deploy?

You can clearly see the raised CG pin.........but the good news is under the loupe it is flat, so just needs seating down. Some of the prior pics suggest it might be rounded, but it is not, its just lighting and distortion.

Deployant is superb and in full working order - need to watch out as some Noob deploys come with faulty spring pins!

Case back has got the sticky in place, engraving is good (does not look it here due to plastic cover) but spacing on the 'O' is a little out?

Date mag......DWO all centred and snap over cleanly.

Looking great on my OEM black croc........

Thanks for the review and thanks for sharing. This was always on my wish list, after the 243 that is looking increasingly difficult to source. May well turn my attention to this beauty now.

Lume markers on 20 and 22 are too close, looks like they are almost touching. They are not even all the way round, was the first thing I noticed. Apart from that, it looks good.

Well thanks ALE, its a pleasure.

Here is a couple tonight after flattening, polishing and recessing the CG pin. May need to pop it back up a fraction but the Macro pics exaggerate everything...........it's getting that used look grime already!

Just to add that the spacing of the 'O' in the srialisation number is not incorrect. The Gen watch also has the additional small space between the O and the four numeral digits - so to differentiate the O from a 0 :)

The issue is not in this watch with four digits in millesimation
The issue is with PAM 299 O-series with three digits: bigger space

Very nice, it's wonderful how a nice review and pics can change ones mind on a watch. Always shyed away from this one cause the silver sub, tastes evolve as they say.

No review needed
Better case, better CG and lever, more accurate dial and subdial @9, better crystal and cyclops, better caseback and maybe better lume
Enough?

ALE - when NTB reviewed this against the M series over on Wrist Check, he commented on the extra space between the 'O' and the xxxx when compared to the M series (There is no spacing on the M series). The Gen Pams from 'O' series do have extra spacing between the letter and the digits - I guess the Gen 299 'O' series does as well - easy to check online?

I had previously checked the space in gen of PAM 299, the rep space is too much large.

Is 'L Swiss Made L" in the right location on the O series? On the O series it is in line with the GMT 12 mark, but on the one on the Panerai website, it is below the 12 mark. Apologies if this was captured earlier, but I missed it....

Link to gen: http://www.panerai.com/en/watch-col...ection/luminor/54-gmt/50-luminor-gmt-pam00088

Maybe they changed it? Even if they did, it looks like the Gen O series has it below the 12, unlike the Noob rep version.

Do somebody has some information about the actual quality of this watch? The last release of the PAM088 is some days ago.... is it still a super rep in compare to all the new releases?
I`m thinking about to buy this one or the new PAM569 ... hard decision :)

Two excellent picks but very different watches. Both are top shelf reps and you'll be just as happy with either. The 088 might have been released a while ago but it was almost gen then and still is. I have both and won't part with either.
