Pick a mans first PAM rep

I have finally decided that I am going to get one. I don't care how big it is, how goofy it looks on me, I can't handle it any longer. I must delve in to this underground world you gentlemen have come to love so much.

Although hesitant to jump right in with a fully modded Davidsen, I have no problem doing so if I find the one that makes me chubby in the lower atmosphere. I am one for simplicity, therefore negating fully chrono models right off the bad. I don't mind the 9-o-c seconds. I do not want a magged datewindow, and I need one that wont look ridiculous on a 6.5" wrist (if that's even possible). Polished/brushed stainless, PVD, no gold. Will be wearing on a leather strap of course, which I will probably go crazy buying immediately after the watch itself.

If you had the decision all over again, what would you start with? What's the most versatile stylish looking PAM that can be used with different straps or situations?

005 (logo dial - seconds @ 9), 000 (base logo dial), 111H (sandwich dial - seconds @ 9) or 177H (Ti case - sandwich dial - seconds @ 9), are all fine starting points. 111H and 177H seem to be "the" first PAM. Right now I'm leaning towards buying a gen 000 if I can find a deal on one, MSRP just over $3K. I love the base dial with the logo. It's either that or a 219 (base dial destro).

EDIT -- Although, I still stand by the fact that you CANNOT beat a 210 or 183 Radiomir for versatility. Throw a MP Cognac Private Stock on there and where it with a t-shirt and shorts, or swap on a black 'gator and wear it with a tux. Looks equally at home in both situations, something that none of the Luminor cased watches can match, IMO.

i would again pick my Special Marina from Ruby. It was my second rep here and my first pam , and its manly and simple . matches any event from a dog fight to the presidency :):)Strange how similar those 2 things are :)

I would recommend you jump right in and get a Davidsen. Although modding watches is fun, I don't think there is much better than pulling out a top quality rep, putting on a nice strap (check out E's straps here) and enjoying from day 1.

I would personally look into Davidsen's 177h, 111h, 005 and 055 or 113 (if you like white dials). Yep, his dial fonts aren't 100%, but unless you wear into an AD, post on Timezone or Paneristi or take it to a gen GTG - you will be fine. Get his swiss movement and you've got a winner that will be around for YEARS to come!

I'm the PROUD owner of 2 of his watches as well as about 16 or 17 of E's straps. They make a GREAT combo IMO.

Here are a few pics of them side-by-side, my 005 and 113:

It is simple, it works great, looks great, it's believable (retail $3,700 I believe) and you get to invest 10x over the cost in bands. LOL

005 with solid caseback, that way you dont have to answer any movement questions. cheap watch and lots of straps.

Davidsen 111 or the Ti 177. Just classic watches.

I've just pulled the trigger on my first pam, was never really interested in them before until I saw davidsen's ti 055 white dial. [smilie=love4.gif]
For me that watch pushed all the right buttons, now I can't wait to wear it and start spending money on straps.

I pulled the trigger last week on my first. I went with a 111h, I love the way the sandwich dial looks! I should have it any day now.

Go with the 111h for sure. Of all my watches I still get the most compliments on it. Go with Davidsen if money is not an issue. If you are on a budget you can buy for $110 from Silix. Very few people outside of these forums have ever examine a PAM. You will never get called out on it.

Could anyone show me the different 111 models? What is the sandwich dial vs non sandwich?

Actually, lets make this a 2fer and help out a friend at the same time. What is this one, with which movement?

The above looks like a 111H. The H being the 6497 movement without the panerai wording etched into the movement.
Don't worry about your wrist. I got an Asian 21J 40mm Pam 125 and loved it. However, you are going to want a bigger Davidsen so just do it. I just received my 177H and swapped out the band with one close to gen from BOB.

You will beg for this lume and you will not get it from a drop shipper:

Not too mention corrected cannon pin and water resistance to 3 atm, tested. Cannot beat it from Davidsen. IMHO

So the one above is a 111H, since it has no wording on the plates? The 6497, this is the manual wind correct?

Yes and yes. It does look like a Swiss movement but could be an Asian. It is definitely the Swan neck regulator on the balance cock.

There is a wealth of information available by scanning the dealers listings on the forum and their websites. By reviewing their available stock you can see the differences, in both the models and the movements. But don't worry about which one to get first. Whateverr it is it won't be your only one. I have five Pams now and I still don't have a 111H... but that's my next purchase.

With the lume, cannon pin, QUALITY of case - you really can't beat a Davidsen.

Look at that damn CG, it frickin' ROCKS! I wish the CG on my 005 looked like that with a flush pin and flat top.

If you're a dress up type of fella get a polished case like the 111H or 005.

On the other hand if you're a jeans type of guy get a titanium case like the 177H, 036 or 082.

Get one from Davidsen. They are a little pricey but you'll have a better experience out of the box.
