Someone asked me in pm what is a shadow case.
I think it is good to explain what are the shadow cases and what are the OOR cases.
When Panerai produces a new watch, it manufactures a greater number of pieces of those expected. Both to avoid the defective parts, both to get the spare parts.
In addition, before the numbering of pieces, Panerai sends unnumbered prototypes to the management and big dealers, to know what they think. Other pieces unnumbered will be exhibited in the expo and boutiques.
When these pieces are no longer needed, they are sold to certain employees at favorable prices. Typically, but not always, before being sold the watches are selected, refurbished and numbered with a laser (OOR).
Depending on the number of selected pieces you will get new numbers preceded by the letters OOR: Out Of Range. So if the pieces are 50, we will read OOR xx/50.
The watches are not numbered, they are called SHADOW.
It is clear that the most sought after pieces will be the Shadow and the OOR of SE (special editions).

What does it matter to us? Those who practice our hobby want to build an accurate model, well done. Therefore having a caseback unnumbered will be better than a caseback with etched numbers (like Noob J or M-series).
The old Noob caseback, not engraved, are perfect to build a Shadow or, sending it to a craftsman as Jakob, an OOR.
If you want find some Shadow or OOR, you can start a search on Paneristi
