{*PCTeam*} Let's customize: "Black Pearl" DLC'ed PAM 104

[PolonusTM]

The idea was to have custom DLC’ed PAM. Most custom black PVD PAMs in the wild are hand wound ones, like 000, 005 or 111. The Titan Black’s version of PAM 297 is great but not doable at the moment… There are talks between Joshua and H-factory to make short series of DLC’ed PAM 297, since I talked Joshua to try it. We will see…


Meanwhile, I found just 2 or 3 examples of blackened PAM 104 in contrast to many 005 etc. Hmm…


Then I found this picture, prototype of “anodized titanium case†PAM 104, as shown during SIHH 2006. Never went into production… pity…

That’s when my idea of “Black Pearl†started: contacted Joshua, since he always mentioned he can customize H-factory watches by doing any mashups I want as long as parts will be available and exchangeable. I tried this once by ordering PAM 111 with golden hands so now - the “Black Pearlâ€! There were already H-factory DLC’ed cases available - but without quick release buttons for easy strap change. Luckily Joshua put I-series SS caseback from times when PAM 104 was still without modern quick release buttons so everything match.


Meanwhile, to support my own concept of how it should look - I asked our great Mario/Orloff to make bespoke croco black matte strap. I got the watch yesterday, greased seals, “loctited†CG screws, regulated. Now, the whole set looks like this:

Polonus, did I misread your description? Did you say that is a 111 case? Or did Joshua PVD coat a 104 case for you? Either way, gorgeous watch and perfect combination with the black croc.

No no... this is DLC'ed Luminor case for automatic watches. H-factory has two version of their DLC cases - for 6497 and, separately - for A7750 movements. I just ordered "please put 104 into H-factory DLC'ed case" and that's it

Yes I knew that by your previous PM but the final effect is really good and since the H maker DLC is grey pencil lead the appearance is very similar

Excellent. That's why I was confused. I wasn't aware of an H factory DLC automatic case. Furthermore, I didn't know they had an auto case without quick release buttons. This is GREAT! I like this look so much with the silver hands and DLC case that I might have to order a case for my 299. Then I can have the option of wearing it as a stainless brushed or a DLC.

Speaking of DLC the finish looks fairly gray. The H factory DLC I have seem tends to be more black. Interesting.

If you have a PAM240 Titanium Automatic, you could swap the titanium case with the PAM104 to get a similar effect right? Although the DLC automatic case might be easier to source than the PAM240. Either way, that's a sweet looking watch Polonus. Love Mario's work on that strap. Fantastic.

No, it is not the same tone, titanium is not close enough to be called "almost DLC" in this case. Here, titanium 351 and "Black Pearl"

DLC'ed case seems to be just a bit darker than Anodized Titanium case as found on photos. BTW. Anodized titanium example Panerai shown during 2006 SIHH had polished bezel prior anodization process. Anyway, H-factory DLC'ed case was the closest approach I could manage

This is really nice and with a lot of personality

Would it be worth to send the bezel to Kroexist or similar to polish and DLC again ?

way too much hassle to polish the bezel and have it DLC'ed again - and I am not sure if polished/DLC'ed bezel would look better. Not sure at all...
