The PAM086D Franken: This build was not as challenging as the other recent builds I have taken on, like the

or the PAM252 North Pole Expedition

Step one: the gray anthracite brushed dial. Amazingly beautiful and unique there aren't many dials like it in the Panerai catalog.
I thought the trickiest part would be sourcing the parts but even that was pretty easy. First up I needed a fully brushed auto case with a round tube, instead of a hex tube, correct for A-F Series builds. I started off thinking I would swap the tube on a modern case and install a gen crown, followed by hand brushing the case. Then I discovered. That the H Factory PAM222H power reserve still exists!
A quick email to Josh and I was in business!!!
Next up... The hands. This part I thought would be impossible. The gen hands are bead blasted. I don't know of many other Panerais with those hands.
But a funny thing happened ironicly, if you google PAM086D, The DSN watch is the first result
I contacted DSN about his hands and caseback, assuming the hands were just painted silver. But to my surprise, they are actually BEAD BLASTED! And really nicely finished. I've got to hand it to DSN. He's the only maker that gives a crap about making these awesome early Vendome watches.
The caseback is damn good too
I had a old mystery cartel CG on hand so I was in business! Time to build
The pam222 dial is actually quite nice and seems pretty darn accurate:
The bold font on the H Series date wheel is perfect
Round tube...check!
No markings on the back of the stainless dial plate
Dial and hands assembled
She's ready!
CG pin flattened, polished, and recessed
Mystery cartel CG fits like a glove and despite a slightly flat topline, is very accurate.
