Many of you already know this detail, but many others are not aware of it. On the plate behind the balance wheel. There is the hidden company logo and the code of the ETA Unitas movement. Panerai movs is also a serial. Here an OP I

One of the reasons why I decided to open this thread, because sometimes in RWI and RG markets, I found some cheap old cartel Pams Swiss ETA Unitas inside.

Two recent examples:

How can you recognize it? Big balance wheel with straight axis, brushed golden gears, Y Incabloc or Novodiac. The hidden logo is the final test. Although Goin and Marlin movs are the exception that proves the rule ;)

I don't know if they still exist but in the past there has been some Asians 6497 with ETA engraving, so unfortunately that's not a reliable tell.

The EL Fiddy "Swinese"? I had one! backplate engraved (real swiss?) but high beat balance wheel (smaller and different axis) and asian straight incabloc.

I think it was just an engraved backplate. Because that same movement would not accept Swiss parts.

The best tell for me is the straight spokes and the dimple on the gold weight.

Actually it was an asian movement with an engraved mainplate engraved, nothing swiss.

OK, I am still confused about the spokes thing. I equated straight spokes with Swiss until today. I see flared spokes in the OP above. Am I looking at the wrong spokes? Or is the movement pictured above not Swiss? Ack.

I've been doing some studying on this and have found several different variants of numerical codes on the main plate here is one with no referanced to 6497 identification only a series of numbers, it also has the smaller alphanumeric code above. I would imagine this was assigned by Panerai not ETA?

Maybe this will help:

I made the same assumption. I think so

I don't think the spokes are a reliable tell although I do think the flaring is a little different with the swiss but not sure LoL.

Swiss.

It seems that the Asian spokes are narrower than the Swiss making the flare less pronounced on the Swiss.

Maybe.

Ack!

Yes it seems that way and Ack is right. It's taken us a few years but now we have entered a new era, flare comparison LoL.

All this stuff makes my nostrils flare :D:
