A few years ago, well before I built my franken 29A I briefly owned the DSN out of the box version. It came with a Swiss movement, the bezel was very accurate and the finish was great. But there were some things that needed improvement.

Dial text
Hand shape
Caseback
Crystal clarity

All of these things were soft points on an otherwise great Swiss movement GMT watch. It took some asking, evaluating and asking again, but it got done. And we're left with a great watch with very respectable accuracy, and even better, some great parts to use on other builds.

Here we go with the pics.

DSN Dial versus the gen

GREAT Sheen! Very Gen like

Hands have been fixed. Lume tracks used to be too wide, now they are perfect. The sweeping seconds is also improved. I measured my gen hand for DSN to use to recreate the hand.

The CRYSTAL!!!! This is the biggest deal of all. DSN has created a new auto crystal with the correct 6mm cyclops using his new high grade French sapphire crystal source. Truly amazing clarity. The crystal below shows ZERO cloud when I conduct my clarity test. His old crystal Is totally cloudy using the same test.

here's an example of his previous lower quality crystal

The caseback... Last but certainly not least. Amazing. The pictures speak for themselves

Another example of his new B Series.

unfortunately I don't have a complete watch to share, nor do I need one ;) But I can assure you, it's a high quality piece with tons of great new parts.

Thanks for sharing, Grimlock. I always like the 029. I guess I will give DSN a try.
I bought a SLOB earlier from him because of your review, too :)

The SLOB was a fun watch and offered a great source for parts for unique homage builds. This 29A on the other hand is a good rep and well worthy of at least first class status.

On the wrist and especially under the crystal this dial looks great compared to the gen. And seriously the crystal is amazing!!!! A foggy crystal will ruin any watch and now DSN has fixed that long time problem.

This applies to ANY 6mm cyclops crystal build you have in your box from Honpo to Eddie Lee to DSN (23, 27, 28, 29, 63) this will be an upgrade for them all.

Also important to note:
DSN also has an upgraded PAM024 and PAM025 sub crystal on par with all of his recent crystals.

And many have not noticed, but he purchased old stock of Noob case sets for his PAM127 and PAM217. Check those out. The crystals look great on them as well.

Thanks Grim, as always very informative. Question about the new case backs in general: are the PreV, 6500 and 6502 also improved? Do they stand to J's in thickness and overall detail and quality?

As I posted on RG, this dial is impressive. It's so good I could find the few very minor differences (slightly different shape on numbers, thicker inscriptions, minute indicators) only by seeing it compared side by side with the gen.

I'm sold.
I'll be installing this dial + CB on my 029M, can't resist the look of those orangeish "tritium" numbers and indices :)

I am hoping that DSN will update his other casebacks. But as of now I think he has only updated these. I will ask if he is willing to update the 6502 and 6500 models.

The depth of engraving and text. Is the best part of the update. The thickness is the same as Jakob and gen. It weighs in at 21g versus a typical gen CB around 26g.

Glad to hear it.

just image the noob 29M with this dial and you'll be there. However the crystal is even better than the noob so that will add nicely to then overall quality of the appearance.

Thanks Grim. I have the noob 29M, and its one of my favorite reps, personally i think the quality of the noob 29m is amazing, better than the noob 243 (which i also have)...i cant believe it does not get more love on here. aight, maybe i will have to TOFTT here...

...though one thing i dont like is the flat CG, i prefer the flared CG

Thanks Grim for this nice review

It seems that DSN is making some good improvements in its productions

This dial seems very nice in comparison to the gen.
The inaccuracies of "2" (in 12 marker) "6" and "9" are very evident for a trained eye. The white inscriptions are a bit thicker.
But in practice and real size they will be few noticeable.
There are also some differences in lume colour, but this is not important with a gen Tritium dial with a lot of variations of colour on the time.
The surface, colour and Tuxedo engraving are really good

Hands have improved appropriately with nice finish and corrected thickness of the lume strips. Even seconds hand has improved

Caseback is really nice now and accurate

But the main improvement, as you are saying, is the crystal, at the same level or better than best last Noobs. Clear and clean. Awesome

Regarding the caseset, I think last DSN have improved a lot from old versions. I assume this caseset will be at the same level or even better than the DSN caseset of my Power reserve PAM 057 with 058 dial (kindly gotten by Grim to me from DSN). In this case I can say that I was impressed by the quality of that caseset in relation to old DSN one. Not as nicely finished as the best Noob, new H maker or KW, with less uniform surfaces and edges (more manual and uneven aspect of the finish), but with accurate shape and good enough to get a First Class rep.

Therefore, nice improvement from DSN and despite the flaws we can evaluate this new rep as a First Class rep of high level.

Congrats DSN for this new watch

Any lume shots of the DSN dial? Considering getting a dial and caseback to swap into my noob v2 29A.
