Hi all,

this is my first contribution as part of the PC Team and hopefully this will be a good start for me...

I chanced upon this blog and found this particular thread which will be useful to the members here..

I have noticed that many members are upgrading their Super Pam Reps with Gen Straps..which means they are buying either from the AD or from the grey market/pre-owned..

As such, the below information will be useful for those buying from the latter and for the others, something to take note of..

Content from this thread as follows:

This is a post which you can follow when need to buy Panerai straps in the market, to avoid those fake straps.

If you have ever bought original Panerai straps, you certainly know this packaging. Transparent plastic bag with light blue sticker.

paneraistrapsandpackagi.jpg

Let’s start with the packaging.

First observe the blue printing, the right genuine product with smooth blue lines, however, the left one with small points. Besides, check the distance between fonts, see the number “1?.

Check the smoothness of the font, “Xâ€, “3?, “M†letters, look carefully.

Put the fakes among genuine Panerai straps and their packaging, you can tell them immediately.

Whilst this is not a fool-proof method of ensuring that you will get a gen strap if in the above packaging, it helps to know so that you will not have to lose your hard-earned cash to scammers.

Remember to always do your research especially when buying in the grey market..Know your buyer before buying the watch/watch parts, etc..

Hope you enjoyed reading this!

eBay is full of rep asso and other reps being sold as gen right now so this is very useful

The post needs to be updated IMHO.

For example, the background of the label is no longer the one with the visible dots. The shade is now the same as the gen (lighter baby blue). The tell on the "1" still exists though (no curved slope on the top of the slant of the "1").

For the barcode portion, the previous tells on the "X" and the "M" no longer exist. The one on the "3" remains (does not look like a 3 more of a reversed C with a line in the middle).

The font color on the OP text is now correct but the font is narrower, so there is more spacing between the letters. The "F" in FIRENZE starts earlier than the "C" in OFFICINE above for reps, the gens have the "F" starting later than the "C".

Take note that the article was made in May, with my packaging delivered in June, and with numerous improvements. So it means there may be changes made after that. I've PM'ed bluffer on the packaging for his Radiomir Asso strap since it may have been made later. Let's see.

Found this old article. was wondering if the tells in the packing has changed since the last post in 2012? Most likely I guess?

from my personal point of view i would be prepared to buy a genuine strap from an AD but im unsure that if i where to approach them what would there reaction would be. Im concerend that they would start asking for case numbers like in scenarios with other brands such as Tudor for instance, and the clamber for the distressed leather on deployment. i see so many gen straps or apparent gen straps for sale but i would love to know how/procedure people have gone through to aquire them in the first place, as im not really interested in buying used.

I bought this PAM688 about a month ago and have wore it a lot as I love the watch: lhttps://puretime03.com/pam688-s-vsf...blue-leather-strap-p-9001-super-clone-v2.html

The strap is pure crap though and feels very uncomfortable, I am not even sure what it is made of. I went to the Panerai boutique today and was quoted US$ 327 for a croco. The gen strap didn't blow me away though so I am going to order this: https://www.abpconcept.paris/collections/bracelets-pour-montres-panerai/products/yachting-3

It's more expensive, but it will be better quality than the Panerai gen straps.

Ye
They look OK and might be worth trying. They advertise them as Alligator straps but in the description they call them, "Alligator Embossed Calf leather strap".

Yeah your right, seem to have good reviews though. Will look into them a little more and may order. Seem to have some nice looking straps in stock..

The link you sent seems a little expensive considering they are not original straps. What do you think of these- https://www.watchobsession.co.uk/collections/panerai-style/blue

Not original straps? :picard: Such a simplistic way of describing ABP straps. Clearly you aren't aware of the reputation of the Atelier du Bracelet Parisien. Yes, their straps aren't OEM, but they are very well made and use the very best materials available. If they're deemed good enough for owners of gen PAMs then they should certainly be good enough for owners of rep PAMs. ABP straps are not the only ones which exceed the prices of OEM straps. I own some Corrigia vintage straps that are more expensive than the standard OEM calf leather.

If you're looking into that watchobsession website, just use Panatime. They have the same quality and prices and are a TD here.
