Comtemplating getting one of the above for my christmas present...

I myself never had the chance to handle either one in person. On the MP website, the 2 straps look very similar. Anybody here can give me some pros and cons of both strap if you happened to own either one or both.

Better yet, if someone can post some pics of the front and back side of the 2 straps...

Much appreciated.... :)

PAV90 both gen and the TC replica (MP PAV90) come in waterproof tan leather. The gen was treated with unique Kodiak method, MP with more standard contemporary method.
Because the straps are waterproof, the leather is stiffer and not to everyone's liking.

PAV99 comes in "standard" tan leather, non waterproofed. The strap is softer and more comfortable to wear. Also PAV99 will develop a nice patina during prolonged wear, PAV90 won't :)

I own TC MP PAV90 replica, and love it to bits, my next purchase will most likely be PAV91 :)

cheers,

Thanks for the info...babola

Would appreciate if you can post a couple of pics of the PAV 90 both front and back sides at your leisure time...

Anybody own a PAV 99..? Would like to see some pics as well.

The PAV 91 is nice but that will have to wait. Don't need a burgundy strap at the moment.

I don't really get the attraction to PAV straps unless it's for historic or collecting purposes. The waterproofing technique is only "guaranteed" for 24 hours under seawater. This is nothing compared to a pool's bleach or the microbes in river water. Furthermore, no one mentions what the strap looks like after the 24 hours or if there is movement under the water in that time period. A lot of questions could be asked really.

Pretty much any leather can be "waterproofed" with the various treatments available. However, no leather is 100% water proof. The closest is actually a marine company that devised a way to combine leather with polymers. But alas that is not a true leather strap. The closest one could get to a water proof leather strap is some form of water resistance. Pecards is about the best product out right now that achieves this. There is also the aerosol product that works well, but can damage leather by not allowing it to breath. And that is a major factor when dealing with leather. Allowing it to breath.
