Panny experts - need some help choosing 111 vs. 127

I'd like to buy a 111 or a 127, however my wrists are only 7.25" (max). I like the old school look of the 127 better than the 111 (at least from the pics I've seen) but I"m worried that a 1950 might look way too huge on me...

Can anyone post some wrist shots of these models for me (or point me in the right direction)?

My daily beater is a sub rep and I'm pretty comfortable with that size but willing to go slightly larger.

Also, would the fit and finish of the 111 and 127 be considered comparable? Are either of them from any vendors actually water resistant??

Cheers!

PS - this was crossposted at the rwg.cc forum... not sure which forum is going to end up being most active...

If you are more comfortable with a sub and you are not afraid to go a little bigger get the 111. If you are not afraid to go a lot bigger get the 127. The 127 is really only 3 mm larger than the 111, but on your wrist, that 3 mm looks HUGE. You should really pick which one you like the best. If you have the chance go to a Panerai AD and try on one of the 44 mm watches that they have and if they actually have one, try on a 47 mm. Then you will know what you are getting into.

The fit and finish of most of the Panerai actually surpass the subs, IMHO. The quality to detail and the construction is excellent. When you get one just change out the rep strap to a high quality strap from one of the strap dealers and you will get an excellent watch in looks and quality.

Thanks for the great replies guys...

I'm guessing that whoever I choose to go with on the 111H (EL, Andrew, Josh) it will be quality and pretty much the same, is that right?

Enzo, you've suggested Silix on the budget end - what about mid ($200ish) and high end ($400ish)? I know this is resembling "who has the best sub", but any recommendations would be appreciated!

i have owned the 1950 and i have the same size wrist u have so i say go with the 111 if those r your only two choices, but i do like the vintage one with the brevet crown, its the 1950 case without the big crown guard which imho tones the size down a bit but will give u the look of the 1950 that u like, i wear and feel it is not so big looking and i know it is because of that huge crown guard on the 1950, hope this helps

You don't want my answer as it is as follows. Buy all of these: 127,217,111,000,005,212,192,196 to start. Then get some subs and perhaps some of the rad vintages.

I would vote for a 127 as I have an 217 and I just like the vintage feel although it is a big watch, it matters not on your wrist but on your mind...If I would get a 111 I would rather get a 005 since the rep has a long arrow logo which is rare for gens...

I have both, I enjoy the smaller 111h as a beater and got a crappy cn one for $75. Also have the 127 that I find more appealing and was able to get a much more accurate rep of.

On the 111h be sure to watch the font on the 1 in the 12.

111

I've had a 127, 217 and a RXW and liked them all. I'm 6'3 and 225lbs and I thought they looked fine on me, but I still had freinds ask "Whats wrong with your eyes???....thats a CLOCK with straps!!!". The 111 (from TTK) looks perfect.
The one bad thing about owning the 47MM is that now when I put a 40MM on...like a sub, it looks silly small.

Good luck and please share pics on your final decision!!

:D :D Here is a photo of my PAM/GMT with the ETA2836 movement I received from EL last week. My wrist size is about the same as yours. I am finding the 44mm to be the perfect size for me. This is my first HQ rep and I love it. I wore it in the shower the other day and it made it without any problems.

Okay, I've decided to go with the 111H -

Now I need to decide Swiss or CN... Swiss is around $340, China less than 1/2 that... I know that on the swiss you get AR, engraved movement...

Any suggestions?

The main things you have to look at are:

Chinese - proper beat and less expensive, needs cleaning when it arrives

Swiss - less accurate beat and more expensive, can wait for service

Both - have ar coating and engraved movements, will have to be serviced eventually, lack proper lume, have recessed cannon pin, come with crap bands.

Since this is your first you might go with the CN. I have it and it runs great. The rep is very close to the original. And even the Swiss won't stand a side by side comparison with the original. On your wrist, no one will know it's not the real thing. It has a beautiful finish. And you can get the AR (I did from Andrew)

Mmmmmmm.......111

Personally, I would get the Swiss. If I'm gonna go to the trouble of buying the watch, I want it to be the best I can afford. Nothing sucks worse than becoming attached to something, then having it quit working a few months out..........not to say the CN will break, but face it, the odds are greater.

Just my two cans, though.
