No kidding about getting a lot of love lately.

At the PAM AD they have had a hard time keeping their models in stock. The limited production runs is no joke, apparently. For anything that wasn't in stock I was quoted 3-6 month lead times.

The other week PAM president Angelo Bonati was touring American AD's. The AD I visited had to place some of the store owners' and owners' family's pieces in the PAM case in order to make the store look like they were promoting PAMs well.

That's a nice dilemma to be in eh?

If he was paying attention he would have been asking why does Shreve's have used PAMs in their case?

This is an interesting point as there was a thread at RWG not to long ago about the staying power of Panerai watches and if they are merely a fad or a a growing classic that will never lose appeal. The thread seemed to be evenly divided by those who said they were a fad and those who compared their longevity to Rolex.

I know that at the largest AD in the US, here in Vegas at Tourneau they have a grand total of 3 Pams on display for sale while there are pehaps 75 Rolex watches in the cases. I am of the opinion that the Panerai watch, even though it has really been around for 75 years is destined to become one of the greatest most respected time pieces ever. In large part market studies are based on supply and demand and the demand for Panerai is clearly beyond the supply.

Panerai has higher demand than supply (on large models - the smaller models don't sell) because they make exceedingly small runs of each model. They've only been popular since Stallone found them and it's far too soon to tell if it's just a fad. Give it a decade.

not many in 57th St Tourneau

-

Last time I was in Tourneau in midtown Manhattan they had 7 or 8 PAMs, mainly autos. No subs, and I was about to ask to see the 111H when a guy rudely barged in and claimed it.

It seemed very obvious to me that the saleswoman - who was as sleazy as algae and who tried to get me interested in anything BUT the 111H (my guess is she had probs getting enough and so was going to promote the others) that they had a very tin stream relative to demand.

I'll be going back there in Sept - let's see how it is this time.

A few months ago when i was traveling the carribean the AD there had no problem stocking them. Each has aboout 10 to 15 different models available, but they only had those. They glady took them out for all inquiring minds specially those that were already wearing Panerai's.

Hmmm, local AD here has quite a few. 183, 176, 177, couple of Submersibles, a few Ferrari models.
