Hi all.

I've been a predominatly rolex/seiko/omega kind of guy... but I always found Panerai to be interesting. I'm a fairly built guy, 6'0, 220lbs, with a 7 inch wrist.

I'm wondering what kind of Panerai style watches would you recommend?

I've seen some popular models like the 111 and 127 however I think i prefer a more balanced look (symmetrical)

44/47mm is fine with me.

I'm leaning towards black/white dials only.

Regards
Tan

Welcome to the Panerai section Tan - much slower here than the Rolex section...!

When you say 'symmetrical', are you referring to the dial specifically? Obviously the big Panerai crown guard on the more popular models doesn't result in the most overall symmetrical appearance on the wrist, so it would be good to know.

Also, the rep Panerai options are quite limited these days (good ones at least) compared to what is available in the rolex/omega realms, so the 'right' Panerai for you may be something you have to be lucky enough to find vis M2M.

happy to provide suggestions regardless.

Can you better explain the "symmetrical" request ? Panerai mostly have the crown guard so will be asymmetrical, and the options with a traditional crown still has a pretty large crown. Beyond this, do you prefer a simple dial, or more complicated dial? Manually wound or automatic? As said, VSF, XF are the best current makers. H factory, noob, DSN are the best for older models, but only available M2M.

Here's a couple of varieties on my 6.75 inch wrist

Sounds like maybe you don't like seconds at 9? 112,176,114 come to mind, Goodluck with that lol!

Hi

Wow, thanks to all who replied. Symmetrical would be dial wise not so much the case.

Thanks for the advice, I understand VSF is pretty good but I'm no sure what the available VSF models thus far.

I've looked the submersible ones and they look quite nice!

Oh yes, I would like to wind the watch; so manual wind > automatic.

Thanks! I enjoy the recommendations and hope to see more!

Who is the maker of that 372? Trying to figure it out because I notice the crownguard has the proper “G” stamp but the bezel has the improper one second marker away from the pearl.

Not VSF. Maker wasn't stated, but it was either KW or ZF. I sold it on about a year ago. It was a great rep, but my preference is towards 44 mm.

What is the improper second marker you're referring to?

I can understand you, and I have a Rolex Explorer II Gen and others myself. I then went to Wempe, had a long conversation with the CEO about the Rolex hype and then had Panerei shown and explained to me. I found the conversation very interesting because he has 4 Panerei's himself, which he changes every day, some Radiomir's. This is my latest replica and I have to say that despite the 47 mm, it is a comfortable watch to wear and doesn't stand out too much. Especially Casual Free Friday's...
