Panerai PAM 082 "AMERIGO VESPUCCI" Review
Hi all,
kind of my first review on watches and the style will be similar to many others I've seen on here and apologies if this has been done before on the 82. Take the blatent copy of style as the highest form of flattery
Anyhow, a lot of people have shown pictures of their PAM 082 on here, and Maximillian's post of them on a beautiful tan strap was what got me interested in the 082 in the first place. It appears that currently it is only Davidsen who carries the 082. On first glance it would also appear to be the most accurate out of box PAM out there. However, there are some flaws as I'll point out below.
First we'll look at the front dial, I've tried to preserve the angle as much as possible but apologies, it isn't always the case;
1) You'll notice that the spacing between the upper MARINA and lower MILITARE on DSN's 082 is too close together. Also, the A's in the MARINA MILITARE are the incorrect font. Font color is correct from what I've seen of gen pics and shown later on, apologies on what looks like a flaw here but isnt.
2) The seconds dial is too far to the right. It needs to shift about 1mm closer to the edge of the dial
3) Hands are slightly green due to superlume. Gen hands and font are identical color, white to mildly offwhite
4) Number 1 on the 12 is too thick as compared to the gen
5) LUMINOR PANERAI spacing is too close together. Lower "P" & "I" should be inline with the 7 & 5 o'clock indices
This shot illustrates the brushed nature of the dial. On mine there is a slight angle to the brushed lines. Others I've seen are closer to the gen vertical brush stroke
On to the caseback.
1) Initially this took a while for me to spot. At first glance it looks to be an exact copy of the genuine. Looking a bit closer you realise that the internal picture is inverted. Where its meant to be embossed, its the reverse, sunken in. Look at the ship, clouds and sea. Wording and everything else is bang on with the outline being marginally too thick
Now for the crownguard.
1) This is fairly obvious. The rep doesnt have the curved upper surface in comparison to the gen. Also, mine came relatively flush with the case, but I've seen others which arn't so. Slight modding needed here. The lip looks to be slightly too long, but I can't be certain due to the lighting.
Lume
Unfortunately I couldn't source any gen lume shots so you'll have to make do with this time lapse shot of DSN's 082. The first one shows the lume glowing directly after a concentrated blast from my flash . The second shows it 45seconds later. The hands are superlumed and glow real bright. The painted font unfortunately doesn't glow as bright or as long. Supposedly this is due to the thinner layer applied to the sausage dial. Can't be certain.
Hope that you've enjoyed this mini-review. Whatever it is, the genuine article + this rep are still very beautiful and very unique pieces with the gen having only 300 made. No regrets in purchasing it and honestly, the flaws are so small and minor that on the wrist and unless a gen is at hand, Nobody would be able to tell. Shown here with a lovely allbut6 custom strap.
