Reading over the history of Panerai, it seems that they sold clock and watches to the military from 1930s to 199x. What military was still using mechanical time pieces in the 80s and 90s and why? Anyone know?

Why mechanical? Probably because its not easy to find a battery shop in the middle of a battlefield!
