On the hunt for my second rep after a fantastic experience with an Omega rep purchased through Toro Bravo. Excellent service and product.

The options for a Pam are quite bewildering even after some searches so......

I am looking for a Panerai rep, not too large perhaps a 42 or 44, automatic with display back. I wonder if anyone can help point me in the direction of a few good quality reps to consider? I am making my way through the superb Pam guide at the moment but a shortlist would be great. Thanks all

I will certainly be purchasing again from TB and thanks to everyone who contributes here, what a marvellous resource.

if you dont have time to read thru the entire PAM bible, google PAm super rep, that should narrow down to approx. 10 watches, based on your taste and budget, go from there...

Looking at your requirements.. You're going to need a shortlist. Because any automatic with a display CB isn't going to score a super rep on ALE's list so Ctrl+F isn't going to work so well. I guess we could further narrow down what else you'd like.. Luminor, Radiomir or Sub? Features? Chrono, GMT? Titanium, steel, ceramic? Luminova or Tritium?

PAM 111 is the way to go breaking into PAM. You won't look back and you'll be hooked.

Thanks for the replies guys, all very helpful. There is a lot to take on board and wow, that Pam guide is pretty impressive thanks Ale7575!
I guess I was kinda hooked up on an auto as I love them and haven't had a manual before but the feedback on the pam111 seems to be so good I may plump for one.
Features wise, I pretty much like a clean, plain watch and am leaning towards the Luminor case. Is there a particular reason that you Panerai fans seem to prefer the manual? Better grade reps?
Thanks again, much appreciated

Like you said, the PAM111 is very very well received as a rep and even as a gen. I believe it is THE PANERAI just as the F430 is THE FERRARI (opinions may vary of course). No particular reason to prefer manual actually.. Autos are just as well liked as the manuals are. The thing with the 6497 movements that the reps do use however is that they are far far closer to gen than reps of gens using in-house movements (P3000, P5000, P9000, etc).

This is true for all reps of gens using ETA movements. So that includes 7750 as an auto movement. At the top of my head currently... The gen Luminor Subs like PAM024, PAM025, PAM087, PAM243 all use a specially made 7750-P1 movement (technically your typical 7750 without chrono module and probably only secs subdial @9). The reps for the movements in these models should be 90% internally - I'm not sure about balance wheel position but I'm pretty sure it's identical. BUT the models I mentioned all have solid casebacks so it doesn't even matter half the time.

Anyway, I guess it comes down to two things for the movement in reps for you: accuracy or not? If you don't really care, you're good with anything. If it sort of matters, you can have a solid caseback. If it really matters, go with the reps of gens that do use ETA movements.

And to answer your question.. Yes, manual reps of gens using 6497 movements are better grade reps. Manual reps of gens using P3000 and P5000 (both manual), will never be super rep unless caseback is solid.

Thanks for that, really interesting and helpful. Definitely leaning more towards the 111 as it seems to have the essence of what I am after, and the consensus seems to be it the best place to start on the Panerai road.

I was in exactly the same situation as you a few weeks ago whilst researching my first PAM.

In the end I decided to go with this PAM 243. Doesn't wear as big as I expected (I have a 6.75") wrist.

I purchased the H-Factory model (the latest one is apparently better than the noob)

The PAM111 seems a little boring to me.

I prefer the submersible models
