Cool... Some variations on the dial. I will surely get the T Swiss T if I'd have gone for the gen :p
Yap... I have seen the genuine 187 has T Swiss T on the dial.

ART VS GEN?

Enzo,

Thanks for that colour - literally ;-) But you make a significant point: that variations can exist for the gens - or is it that Auckland 'ADs' are being 'naughty'?! <lol>

I feel advantaged to be able to go to NY on business and see more than one AD, but having said that, I have never seen a 187 in NY - even in the humongous Tourneau watch boutique [4 floors] on 57th E. In fact, last time I was there the saleswoman [Japanese - btw, I have no issues w/ Japanese, even have spent a lot of time there, but it speaks to clientele!] breathlessly told me that it was [effing implied] amazing that they had a 111H in - and so it was, I lapsed in interest and this gangly-haired dude sidled in and exclaimed, "That's the one!" [ie, "ah hah - I beat you to it- sucker!"] And the 111H quickly went w/ the other salesperson, while my Japanese sales assistant tried to sell a watch I had not asked to see.

I appear to digress: (1) maybe one can see more interesting pieces where there is less frantic demand / awareness, (2) the 111H I saw seemed no better than my Josh piece - whereas, with 'your' 187 it seems we have a long way to go to obtain real access to obtain a good rep.

Thanks for sharing, mate.

I heard this story of finding Daytona in certain cities in USA is like hell. Well, let me tell you, those pieces can be found a lot in second hand watch shop here in Singapore. Almost every shopping malls here have 2-3 different vendors selling high end watches. If you just happen to stop by for transit, there's a watch shop in Changi Airport (singapore) that sells luxury watches at a good price.

Comparison between Rep 187 and Gen 187

Since we are talking about 187, I'll just chip in with my experience today.
I had an opportunity to compare my rep 187 and a gen 187 and here are my thoughts.
First glance, you cant really tell which is gen and which is a rep. The rep is surprisingly very close to the gen.

Except for these differences:-

- The Gen's illume is smaller, more subtle with a rounded 'lozenges' shaped illume whereas the Rep's illume looks like a stick-on. The Illume on the rep is noticeable if you look close approx. 30 cm away.

- The blue '1000' imprint on the dial is darker in colour on the Gen.

- The white gold bezel markers on the Gen is flatter compared to the rep. The makers on the Rep are raised slightly higher than the Gen.

- The chrono push buttons on the Gen does not screw in all the way but the Rep does. The Gen looks way better not screwed all the way in. You can actually see the threads on the Rep which imo is ugly and an immediate tell tale sign of a Rep.

- Another obvious one would be the date window. The Rep is a 7750 so the date sinks deeper than the 7753 Gen. Another immediate tell-tale sign.

The surprising similarities:-

- The AR reflected glass. Almost the same quality on the rep compared to the gen.

- The weight is almost the same. I'll weigh them when I have the chance. But for some reason, the Gen seems to weigh a bit lesser. I might be wrong.

That's about it I guess. I am truely surprised that even with the subtle differences, the Rep 187 look more 'buffed up' than the Gen. The gen looks very delicate which I think is because of the thinner illume and lower-raised bezel marker (as compared to the rep).
Overall, the only thing I really like about the gen is the tritium dials. At least for now.

Another small observation, the 12 o'clock marker on the gen is slightly off to the left. What a bummer. My rep looks almost perfect.... time to mod. Heh.
