Panerai - Fit Gen Leather Strap to Deployment Buckle

Hello all! I'd appreciate your advice.

I bought a deployment buckle and it is slightly wider than the space on the leather strap. (see attached image)

I could use a Xacto knife and cut the leather slightly on each side, but once I do that it's over, there is no going back.

If this doesn't work well, I will have to use the tang buckle and it won't look right.

The other side of the strap will fit btw.

It seems many GEN leather straps do not fit deployment buckles out of the box.

I’m primarily concerned about losing the integrity of where the buckle attaches to the leather strap.

Has anyone attempted this type of mod? Any advice?

Thanks so much for your time,

Jas

Grab a razor blade, and carefully cut the strap to fit the buckle.
One other issue is the thickness of the strap, it might not fit the buckle itself, but if you are careful, it will be snug.
I hope this helps.
Thanks.

tridad Thanks for the quick reply. Have you done this before? Does it hold up well over the years? Thanks for the help!

I believe the leather strap will adopt one mm on each side. Let it moist by water and try to instal it when wet. Learher will be soft and flexible.

Panerai deployments are uncomfortable, stick with the tang + it won´t fit if the the strap is thicker than 2.5/3 mm at the buckle end. See if it fits first before cutting the pinhole

Yes I have, still have it on a yellow croc strap, so far so good.
I hope it works for you.
Enjoy

I always thought that straps were specifically made for either Tang buckle or deployent clasp, with different measurements

Thickness is the key, you can put a tang on a deployment strap, but you usually can't put a deployment on a tang strap because it will be too thick

Deployant straps are usually thick at the spring bar end and taper to very thin so it can fit through the deployant buckle. Tang buckle Panerai straps have the usual thickness throughout. Swapping either just looks weird.

OP, just use that strap on tang buckle if that's what its made for. Panerai gen straps are great and totally finish off a rep piece. Enjoy it for what it is :)

tridad Last question for you!

First, as you suggested, I will cut the strap a few millimeters with a xacto knife or razor blade.

As you know, and as you can see here in the image attached, this strap is tight in a deployment buckle. It is not really possible to push it through without scraping the leather.

To resolve this, I removed the pin in the deployment buckle and will set the strap to its correct position for my wrist size, then will lock the pin back into place. It is a tight squeeze, but it looks like it will work ok.

Before I begin surgery, is this your experience as well?

Thanks, Jas

Exactly as you did...the most easy way to "put" that strap into deplyment bucle....I suggest you to consecrete this leather strap to the deployment buckle to its last breathe....
