Happy weekend everyone. I am saving up to buy a gen Pam or Breitling (ie, trying not to spend my entire monthly salary on reps each month!), and in order to motivate me, I occasionally visit my favourite local jeweler with a small selection of gen PAMs to ogle. I visited him today, and he told me that there is a Panerai exhibition on at the moment(!) in my city, with some new 2012/2013 models on display, and I should go take a look... Well, SAY NO MORE. Off I sped, and luckily I always keep my trusty Lumix in the car. Ladies and gentlemen, here is how a lucky guy spent his morning

I arrived at the mall where the exhibit was. Yip. I'm in the right place alright... Outside the mall they had this big poster:

On entering the exhibit I am greeted with this corridor (detailed text pics later):

On to the exhibits! They are housed in glass containers, in dark rooms, so photography was a bit tricky:

I couldn't photograph all the watches on display... Here are the ones I could get kinda half decent shots of:

I hope you enjoyed as much as I did. Some of those pieces are pretty rare - most people never ever get to see one. I'll leave you with this question, which you can respond to in the comments below - if you could have walked out of there with any one of these PAMs, which would it be? :)

Thanks! Yeah it was exciting. Mostly because it was such a surprise to see. I wasn't expecting a museum quality exhibition on one of my favourite watch brands today. Or any day in my country! You never know what you could wake up to, I guess :)

Thank you, Q. I knew you guys would love it.

BY THE WAY - the dealer tells me that these are all 2012 models - 'O series'. I didn't get to see the case-backs for many, as they were locked behind glass, but the ones I did see were indeed all O series.

Some of these models were released at SIHH 2012, so are brand new models. Not sure which ones though. I think the ceramic luminor PAM441 is new... I'm not sure. Anyone with knowledge please assist.

Any mention of the 'composite' cases they are having such trouble with? (386 etc, if I recall). They are gorgeous, but when sweat can make the case surface blister, then I'm not interested! I heard Panerai was, in fact, going to discontinue them--and that 'composite' is really rather a misnomer anyway because it was essentially an aluminum case with a surface bonded to it.

I think you may be right, as neither jeweler I went to even mentioned composite as an option to buy. They may be phasing them out.

@ lear2003 - yeah, the PIG is back, baby!

@ Lelouch - Johannesburg, South Africa

@ kaniel - Awesome pics! I'm jelous you got to wear the ceramic. To answer your question, I have a strong feeling that this time next year we will be seeing the PAM441 as a super rep. The factories know that ceramic is selling well - the PAM292, ceramic subs, HBB ceramics are apparently selling very well. Ceramic is a fantastic material for a case, and durable. The watch you're wearing in your pic, although identical to the PAM441, is a PAM438 "Tuttonero". I think its the extact same watch, but with a ceramic bracelet. I doubt they will rep the ceramic bracelet, but you never know - we've seen good ceramic bracelets done with Hublot reps recently. Both the PAM441 and PAM438 these were released 2012 at SIHH, and it takes a year or so to get a good rep in the works. So mark my words - this time next year... PAM441.
