Hi Fam,

I am looking to purchase a noob 372 from a TD but a someone on the forum here suggested that the 372 has incorrect movement and i should get a closed back.
still being noob to the rep scene i just need some clarification as i couldnt find it on the search.

1. what is wrong with the 372 movement? the TD i am purchasing it from has this info on the watch (Asian UNITAS-6497-2 17J hand-winding movement at 21600vph with custom bridges)

2. what is the difference between open case back and closed?

3. if the movement is incorrect, does this mean it keeps inaccurate time or just the look is different?

any help would be great to help me decide on this watch

thanks all!

It's only the look, the gen is open caseback. I'm not aware there is a closed caseback for this model. The person probably suggested u to get another model like the Pam 005 with closed back.

seems like a strange thing to say if its just for the looks especially the case wouldnt be visible when worn.

thanks for clarifying

It's just about the accuracy to gen

The movenent works great, it just looks different visually to the gen. That's why many members are sourcing an aftermarket caseback for this model.

Kind of a crappy comparison here but here's what you are going to be looking at that's different visually on the 372. The rep is all upside down and not lined up when compared with gen.

Gen on top and rep on bottom.

But seriously the 6497 is such a workhorse and easy to source movement, that I prefer it over the super clone.

I would rather have a solid proven movement than one that looks identical to gen but doesn't function as well. Of course, if you can have both.... :)

1. Noob is just using the A6497 movement with some plates to look somewhat like the P.3000 although it's not even close.
2. Gen has the open (display caseback). No unmodified gen has a closed caseback (but there are cases where the caseback had been replaced with a closed caseback to look like its 6152/1 vintage inspiration).
3. Movement accuracy, when we discuss it here, pertains to the accuracy of the look and the function, not as a timekeeping device. This would be determined by the timegrapher pictures sometimes provided by the TDs.

Actually you can. The Superclone P.3000 movement has generally been shown to be accurate, as long as it's within the 3 days power reserve (it can store as long as 5 days, which is 2 days more than the gen P.3000 movement). Beyond that, the accuracy goes down.

Hell yes on this.
I could not care less on the movement appearance. Give me a solid 6497-2 anyday....

The only time this would ever matter is if you are talking to a gem PAM owner and they ask you to take off the watch so they can see the back. And even then it't 50/50. And, you can tell them to go to hell for asking. And, so, get a closed casebook if it is going to bother you. There are plenty out there.
