Ok, so a few months ago i purchased a 212 swiss from josh for my brother. Verynice watch except for the fact that the crystal had randomly exploded ( pics somewhere on trc) anyways, josh took care of it and replaced the crystal and all is well. My brother is wearing it well now. A friend just bought the asian 7750 version from eddie. He loves it . and now i am thinking of geting one for myself, Thing is, i cant afford a swiss one, so i would like to know
between the siwss and asian models is the ONLY differnce, the movement. Are the dials identical? all the markings and such , case size, buttons, CG covers, latches, are they all identical

and do u guys konw if the asian movt is the "a" or "b" version, or does it even matter. anyone have issues with it. or with the stop watch function, thanks

cheers

heres my reply from josh

There is only one maker for this watch.. If the maker says its sapphire, I cannot doubt it.. More so when the great Eddie Lee and River is saying theirs is sapphire, I have to follow.. The Crystal is actually synthetic crystal chemically treated to have the properties of crystal... Breakage is not really due to the fact it is not sapphire.. It is due to the pressing and pressure from within when the watch is subjected to during freight.

anyways, i am getting 2 pvds, but one is actually for a friend. LOL.

212 - EL

Well, I ordered a 212 using the Asian 7750 from EL about a month ago: it, I hope, will arrive this week as I checked today and it was "inbound to [US] customs".

Concur with what Enzo says: there have been a few issues but EL maintains he has many happy customers. I will get mine serviced soon after arrival and hopefully it will be one of the robust ones.

I love the look of this watch: it will be my first auto PAM, having stuck with Swiss 6497s to-date.

We shall see. What made me choose the Asian was the more gen look - price aslo a factor to weigh as the Swissie is one of the more exy reps.

Cheers, BBB

Yeah mate: Josh's & EL's look comparable to me. CJ persuaded me to consider a 212 over a 217 destro - but of course, I must still have the 47mm Destro! Glad to hear your mate like's his ... if I hadn't received my 202a from David I would be going bonkers now waiting for the 212 to arrive!

:)

I have just ordered the new swiss 212 which now has an engraved rotor which does unfortunately clash with the 25 jewel engraving on the 7750 but I can live with that over the unsteady asian valjoux. Also the new swiss model has black subdial hands but slightly thinner numbers but I prefer that and even genuine Pans do vary from watch to watch.

This model can be seen on Watchonpo's latest web page.

"30 Jewel"

. . . which does unfortunately clash with the 25 jewel engraving on the 7750

Oh, the saga continues . . . is the genuine actually 30 jewel?

the Jewels are the little red things visible throughout the movement. they are like bearings for the moving parts!

Zigg, usually. It's a 7750 - the gen OPXIX is supposed to have 30j.

Synthetic sapphire - watch from EL.

apparently when dealers say synthetic sapphire, it means its chemically coated but otherweise mineral

and when they say sapphire its really synthetic crystal.

ive learned this inthe past 24 hrs, its very confusings, symantics is a bitch,

212 sapphire crystal

@ Veedub, I was incorrect: my 212 is sapphire crystal (not synth.) It's north of $300 so I would hope so ...

afraid not, ive discussed with josh, he states tho it has been advertised as sapphire, it is actually what he says is synthetic saphire coated, but actually mineral.

so bottom line is it is mineral.

though, when i did the scratch test with my broken peice, wtiha Benchmade armyknife, it didnt scatch,

who knows

This is how I understand it...

There are two terms that most dealer's use - Sapphire and Mineral

When a dealer sells "Sapphire", it's not real sapphire, but a synthetic sapphire with the same scratch resistant properties. This "Sapphire" is the same sapphire used by genuine watch makers like Rolex or Omega.

When a dealer sells "Mineral", it's mineral glass and not as scratch resistant as "Sapphire".

Base checked the crystal of his 212 at a jeweler using a diamond tester and it was confirmed that it's made of the same material as the genuine Omega watches in the store. So his 212 has a "Sapphire" crystal. Based on that, no pun intended, that seems to discredit Jonathan's remark that no dealer sells the 212 with a "Sapphire" crystal.

Mine was from Eddie - is it specced the same as Josh's? I was told it's saphh. crystal - also, if you check Josh's site I think he has 2 different specced 212s (in terms of 'glass',3 if you count the Lemania).

@moggio, 212 is a nice watch, I started to appreciate more for it since there is a bit more on the dial than a 1950, u should put it on your list, may be me as well
