Hello,
I just received my PAM 127 manual. Anyway, I had an issue before where it wouldn't wind, sent it back, and just received my second (replacement). The watch winds well and keeps good time, however once I let it wind down and went to change the time today - unfortunately it won't move the hands, the crown just clicks and clicks.
Any suggestions or is this normal for an asian movement? I wanted my first PAM to be simple in terms of wind and set, however even this seems to be problematic.

Yes winding it clockwise. The winding is fine, setting the time isn't. I can't move the hands at all. It's like the crown stays in the "wind" mode if you will.

It could be a keyless works issue, you may have to tighten the Crown Set Screw, what happens is every time you pull the crown out to reset the time the Crown Set Screw rotates until it becomes loose.

Its a very simple fix if indeed it is a Crown Set Screw/Keyless Works issue. Thats my guess anyway, someone else may be able to diagnose the problem more accurately than I.

Ok, so here's the stupid question. I have no problem with attempting the simple fix as it is part of the learning curve.

Would I be able to find this information on the watch repair section? Also, does this include opening the watch up?

Thanks for the quick replies guys!

If you want to know where the Crown Set Screw is located I have a link for how to disassemble that movement below.

BTW you won't have to disassemble the watch! Simply open the caseback and tighten the Crown Set Screw with a very fine flat head screwdriver.

The Crown Set Screw is located on the left hand side of the movement, it is the small silver screw next to the small go wheel, ( lower left hand side) really easy fix.

That is the small silver screw next to the small cog wheel

the small cog wheel is called the Crown Wheel

Edit: ok, it's the really really small screw beside the small cog wheel, right above the blue screw (holding watch with crown on the left side now). It's really the only tiny silver screw on the entire movement plate.

IGNORE: Ok, I went through the link (thanks and it's bookmarked). Is the screw that you are talking about the "Screw for crown wheel"? Of so and following the video, it is located to the level with the crown on the right hand side (if the crown is on the right). Is this the correct screw?

Also, when opening the caseback are there any special suggestions that one might have as I certainly don't have the correct tools for the PAM?

On the manual i linked for you go through and the screw I am talking about is called the 'screw for setting lever' on the diagram it is on the right however the watch is upside down in this case for you it will be on your left, and no it is not the screw for the crown wheel.

On the repair sections here on RWI modders call it the Crown Set Screw, I will try to find a link that shows where its is located.

Found it! Thanks for that. Now I will get the caseback off and see if I can tighten this little screw up.

Once again, excellent forum and excellent people! THANKS RR!

BTW you need a caseback opener and watch holder I have pasted the type of tools you will need belwo from amazon, or anywhere else you can buy these tools. I bought mine from Maplins.

Be carefull when using the case back opener tool as it can silp and scratch the watch,You can also buy a kind of sticky ball that will prevent you from scratching the watch, there are also specfic casback tools for panerai, ask your dealer he may sell some.

a ball of duct tape works just as well to open a case back and reduces the risk of scratches which a caseback opener can do if it slips

Coldi - duct tape did the trick, you are awesome! I tightened it as much as I thought I should screwing it back in, but I will test it out in a few days.

RR - the screw for setting lever seemed to do the trick! I didn't tighten it too much as I was worried about breaking something - par for the course for me really, however it worked!!

You guys are great and bailed me out when I thought that I was pretty much stuck with a nice rep that wouldn't work.

Thanks for everything.

This issue was my first introduction to the wonders of how the mechanical movements work. Unfortunately, the issue of my keyless works was more serious and I had to disassemble that whole part. People on the forum held my hand through the operation and it was a success. I have since done 3-4 and including a complete tear-down. It's amazingly satisfying. Get yourself a few good quality screwdrivers (not the cheap ones you get at the hardware store--and which I started out with), a pair of good quality tweezers, a loupe, and you are off to the races. One thing I find really helpful--because I don't know what I'm doing--is to photograph the movement with my macro setting as I tear it down. That way you don't have to remember where everything goes.

Good advice. I think that I will look at doing the macro thing when I take the next one apart.

Glad to hear you fixed it, I am no expert on watch repair, but I had a similar issue and it was that tiny crown set screw so when I read your thread I knew straight away what the problem was.

What impressed me was the duct tape working, I spent all that money on watch tools and scratched my watch in the process!!
