For watches with drilled lugs, this tool enables you to compress the spring bar through the hole in the lug. The opposite end is designed for compressing the spring bar when between the lugs.

Is this what you are describing?

That metallic tool can scratch the watch, you be better of with something made out of plastic or wood. A toothpick or some plastic needle works just fine. I use metal tools on my watches only as a last resort.

This. Not between the lugs. What I'm talking about has one "button" for top & one for bottom (i.e. only one per strap/side of watch)

Thx for tips on toothpick and ballpoint pen!! They both sound much better than metal.

I use a swab of Magic tape on the lugs to prevent them from getting scratched.

A toothpick is a great tool for this purpose. I just don't have any.
