Hi friends! I`m just diving into the deeps of the art of creating vintage looks and asked myself (and now you) if somebody knows what material the sandwich dials are made of? Anywhere I`ve read about a "resin", but that`s a little superficial.
Maybe somebody knows more...?

Hi derzar

I think they are made the same than other dials but in two layers
Anyway in this thread you have some pics of dissasembled sandwich dials and you can see some details about the materials.

I resin filled dial is a vintage procedure to make the dial look like a gen 3 piece dial which is extremely thick.

Modern Pam reps all use a brass or other metal base plate and a top plate made of brass or in some cases plastic.

Aftermarket vintage top plates come as bare brass or stainless and are hand painted then resin filled.

You apply resin (I use clear coat) to the backside of the dial and let it dry in a downwards position to get a good flat surface. Then apply whatever you want to the indices to get the look your going for.

Hope this helps. ;)

Thx mates! I even thought they are of painted copper or brass with a tin base plate.

I have seen tin colored based plates too. Whatever cheap flat metal they can solder feet on. ;)
