PAM438 - Weird sorta not working

Just got my PAM438 from PT and...well it sorta works. Not going to go into how extremely painful just getting this watch was but needless to say I am at my wits end with this latest development.

So here is the scenario - the watch hands move just fine to set time, nothing feels loose. I set the time push everything back in and it runs for about 10-12 seconds. Now here is where it gets weird - with the watch stopped dead - I turned it upside down to look at the movement to see if the spring was kicking and sure enough it is moving just like you would expect. I turn the watch back over right side up and it is now working again...for another 10-15 seconds.

Turn it back over - rinse, repeat and same results without any variation.

Sounds like there may be something loose in the movement if you shake it gently any rattles evident? Otherwise find a local Watch smith to give it a service

Problem is most smith's hate working on 7750's...apparently they are a pain in the ass to work on. Totally not looking forward to having to return this to HK :tumbleweed:

I understand your pain regarding returns to China I have had to do it a few times and each time I wished I had not bothered!! Maybe post the watch on m2m sales for a small discount and buy again??

Strodda, vac, 14060 or 16610? All work on 7750s. I'd just send it to one of them to fix.

I hit up Strodda and Vac (think Vac is in FL so hope he is ok with the hurricane), Rick914 and asked the TD if they would shoulder any of the repair costs. I suspect they won't but doesn't hurt to ask I guess. Thanks for all the suggestions @teddy875 =)

Rick is good also, but he's moving so I don't think he's currently taking on new jobs.

I knew it...
I had this kind of behaviour on a 7750 clone before in a pam243. Ran perfectly dial side down, but stopped when dial side up.
Luckily I had a spare parts movement, so I didn‘t bother much further. I traced the strange behaviour down to the combination of escapement wheel, pallet fork, main plate and gear train plate. I remember this driving me nuts until I fixed it. I noticed something was totally wrong when I tried to move the pallet fork with my tweezers and 1-2 times out of 10 I could feel a mechanical lock... Very, very strange.

if you had to guess what would this cost to fix from a watchsmith?

i was offered $50 or the option to return it....dreading returning it
$50 refund or $50 credit? I would NOT return it to China. Take the $50 and have somebody look at it CONUS.
