PAM286J Special Edition - Before pics

So what's a special edition J-series Rattrapante? A 286J of course, basically a rattrapante version of the 253I.

For those who wonder a [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_chronograph"]Double chronograph - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/File:Gallet_multichron_rattrapante.jpg" class="image"><img alt="" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/3/31/Gallet_multichron_rattrapante.jpg/200px-Gallet_multichron_rattrapante.jpg"@@AMEPARAM@@en/thumb/3/31/Gallet_multichron_rattrapante.jpg/200px-Gallet_multichron_rattrapante.jpg[/ame] is essentially a double chronograph or split second complication. The one featured in the 286 is derived off the venerable 7750 and features a double column wheel from memory, something most collectors just love gushing about (most current crops of inhouse chronos contain column wheels) due to their efficiency and design.

I've since poisoned Takashi and kkj to order one. Even though its claimed to be a mineral crystal, it is absolutely stunning. Very clear, looks like colorless strong AR, great distortion (i.e. gen like very little). Great dial and printing and overall feel is one of a quality gen. The CG is near perfect, there is a mild dimple in the overall CG when viewed at an angle but well, can't be easily noticed. Movement is wrong but still looks great.

So what am I about to do to this beauty? DLC it but of course! Off it goes on Wednesday to be sandblasted and coated by Taka, can't wait for my pseudo 332.

I thought so too, till I nearly bought the gen 332

Then kkj psychoed me to get the rep 286 and DLC it instead since its such a great rep. I prefer stick markers versus circle anyhow too.

does the split second chrono actually work, I didn't even think this model actually had the 2nd white seconds hand

It does have the 2nd seconds hand but it moves simultaneously with the first when you activate the chronos. The second chrono button at 8 o'clock is faux and doesn't work though it does "click" when you press it.

I'd be shocked and very pleased for a rattrapante movement for $280!!!

i've been in a dilemma deciding whether to get the 286 or the 253 flyback, they look the same to me bar the faux pusher at 8. such a tough decision

Prefer the 286 as most have said it is slightly more accurate (barring the movement) over the 253

Thought I'd share the progress. The parts are all DLCed just awaiting the sapphire crystal now. Proto done. Pretty decent, though distortion at the edges was off. New proto being made and we'll see soon
