I don't know if the size is made 1:1. The obvious flaws I see is the of lost the power reserve indicator. The date font also looks incorrect. The diameter of the see through crystal look smaller than the gen.

Anyone will like to comment on the movement? Is the GMT hand functional?

Any comment are welcome.

Thanks

The movement plates look pretty convincing but the I couldn't find a photo of the back view of the entire watch, so cannot comment on the size of the rear crystal.

The position of the date window is incorrect - it should be much closer to the 3 o'clock marker. It should have a cyclops... which appears to be missing on this rep.

The date font is incorrect - should be bolder.

The CG is upside-down...; the lever should point up, not down.

It also seems to missing the day/night indicator on the small seconds subdial... which would make the GMT hand useless, even if it does take 24 hours to go around the dial.

Shame that the linear power reserve indicator is also missing. I wouldn't expect it to work on a rep - but a static version should have been possible.

Did I miss anything?

Where did you find this rep, Taiji?

Found it in Malaysia China town.

Although the watch has many dead giveaways but still it is a very nicely presented watch isn't it?

Yes - at first glance it looks good. It would be nice if one of our dealers could locate the factory that is making it - and convince them to see life our way...

i think in comparison to the old style Panerai movements....the new in - house movements are

drop dead ugly. no matter how precise the reps will get in the future ( with the new style mvmnt )

- i will never buy one.

I think it looks pretty cool, not very accurate, though with some more tweaking could be interesting. I wonder if any of our dealers will pick up on these, or if there are better models coming down the pike?

You are right. the Calibre 2002 might be a miniature mechanical marvel... but it is a homely as a mud fence. You have to wonder why Panerai didn't hide it behind a solid caseback.

Having said that, I look at the front of my watch more often than I gaze at the back (with the possible exception of my CDG dagger swan-neck 2947) so if the maker got the front of this one right, I'd buy it without a second thought. A faux power reserve would be quite acceptable.

mmmm I don't think it will fool anyone who knows the brand.

So we argue over 6497s in detail, whether they have working Swan Necks, stamped vs etch ETA markings ... this movement has a jewel (Next to OFFICINE PANERAI) movement bridge, that is simply cosmetic, it's not connected to anything ... if that isn't POS, I don't know what is.

straight on you can see it better ... and there is no GMT tower, so that GMT hand is likely static ...

Interesting statement: I dont think it will fool anyone who knows the brand.

This really made me stop and think for a minute...am I "Trying" to fool people wearing my rep. Submariner? I suppose that I in fact am doing that in a sense. Also, who is it exactly that Im trying to fool?? If I were to sell a rep. as a Gen. than I would be trying to "Fool" someone purchasing the watch in question I suppose....
I dont really buy replica watches to fool anyone...I buy them merely for my own pleasure and enjoyment, If I have to worry about fooling a person that really knows the brand than Ive got bigger problems on my hands. Besides that, most people that know me or what a Panerai is know that I could not afford one to begin with, so I would be pointless to even attempt such a feat.
I suppose that statment alone is the reason Im wearing Gen. watches more and more these days.

3 barrel 8 day power reserve

The 8 day reserve--

This is a nice watch engineering feat, regardless of how you feel about the in house movement aesthetics.

By the time chinese watch engineering gets to the point that they can reliably copy something like a 3 barrel 8 day power reserve, they will have arrived as a legitimate industry.
