I know some of you guys are anal like me about your reps and I have been holding off on the pam217 because the "officine panerai" is upside down. Well I was just looking around over at repgeek and look what I found http://www.repgeek.com/showthread.php?t=2458 I don't know about anyone else but that is the first time I have seen a movement with this. I wonder where one can purchase these?

The latest Asian 6497-2, 21kbph 'hi-beat' ETA clone.

I've had a good look at one sample last week, ETA symbol and 6497 engraving is all there, however it's laser etched, not stamped like in real Swiss ETA mov'ts. Main plate also looks different from both Swiss and current Asian ETA clones.

Nice finish as well, a class higher than 'standard' Asian 6497-1/6497-2, IMO. Interestingly the hour and minute hand gears were finished just as Siwss ETA, while second hand gear was "rough as guts"...they could have been made/finished on two different machines, you reckon ?

Anyway, it looks like another step closer to the cosmeticaly identical hi-beat mech mov't that Panerai use in their gens, unfortunately Asian clone with no Swiss ETA parts, whatsoever.

Only time will tell how reliable these will be on a long run, it's simply too early to speculate about quality and longevity of these new clones :)

Cheers,
