I'm interested in buying myself a Ti Pam. I like the PAM172 with the blue needles. I found out that Joshua has it with the Swiss Unitas and it looks very nice. Does anybody if the gen's case is also SS/Ti just as the one Josh offers? If not, is the difference noticeable?
Your input will be appreciated.

Rumor has it rep makers have replaced Ti with brushed S/S on recent 172 and 192 reps.

Other forumers may chip in and confirm this.

cheers,

172 from Josh is a beaut; gen is *Tantalum*

-

Actually, the gen is made of tantalum - hence the name. IMO Josh's is the closest one still out there, using the Ti to approximate the gen's tantalum.

I have the one from Josh and love it: bottom right:

Can't go wrong w/ Josh's [smilie=thumbsup.gif] - the 172 has really grown on me :D

OK BBB, didn't take much to convince me. I'll be going for it along with the blue stitched velcro strap Josh is also offering.

172

I purchased this 172 from Joshua and it is the Asian movement which I am completely happy with. It is a great watch. :D

@Hambone:
looks good. I'll take your word on being happy with the Asian movement
Would you happen to know if the gen ever came out with the same swan neck movement as this asian model?

It depends on which look you want. Mine has the base 6497 that stayed basically the same since the late '90s [edit - see comments a couple of posts below] I have a Swiss movement that is consistent w/ this earlier 6497 version.

From 2003 the 172 came w/ swan's neck, the OP XI.

It's a personal preference - but I really like my older / simpler movement in this watch, photo here

Yup Base would be nice...

Brad mate, I don't believe Panerai ever made 172 with OPII, the first 172 came out in early 2003 with OPXI mov't :)

cheers,

Hmmm, I guess you may be right there @babola as the 172 date was after the switch - though for some reason when I looked into getting a 172 I came across some supoosed gen pics that has the simpler OP II 8)
