Thanks for reviewing. I'm a newbie here and received these QC pics of a PAM 111 v3. I'd really appreciate the keen eyes of the experts . . .

For some reason, I'm having trouble uploading photos, so here's a Dropbox link to the photos:

From my own review, I see that the swan neck is touching neither the regulator nor the screw, but understand that that is common. This may be the light/angle of the photos, but it appears some of the engraving on the back is shallower. As well, the blue "I" in "PANERAI" seems a bit smaller than the other letters. Could be the angle again. From the top, I'm not seeing any of the CG pin. Also, are the hands a lighter lume than the remainder?

I guess the last real question is whether these issues are to be expected or will be eliminated/improved with a different watch of the same model.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Yeah, it used to be actively discouraged.

[h=2]The purpose of QC pictures[/h] At RWI, we're fortunate to have a few dealers who take the time to individually procure, inspect, and photograph watches for potential buyers. This has not always been the norm, and in fact, it's a recent development. Up until about two years ago, all of the dealers drop-shipped everything and never even had the items in their hands before it got sent to buyers. As a result, buyers got items with obvious flaws and occasionally received the wrong thing altogether, and it was all "part of the game".

Things have changed, and for the better. We do now have dealers who are willing to post QC pics to buyers to make sure that people get what they want. But there's a specific purpose for those pictures, and unfortunately, we're seeing more and more buyers (usually new members) who are abusing this privilege.

Purpose of QC pic:

1) ensuring that you are getting the right watch
2) identifying any serious flaws in the item

You may post a QC pic if you have a specific question about a possible flaw that you have found, and want input on how common or acceptable it is. However, the purpose of QC pics, and especially posting it on the open forum, is not: "Dealer X has sent me this QC pic, what do you think?"

We expect everyone to do their own research and homework as to whether an item is acceptable to them. If you haven't noticed a flaw, asking 38K members to jump in and identify all the problems they can possibly find is unfair to everyone. It's unfair to the folks who have taken the time and effort to learn about this hobby. It's even more unfair to the dealers, who have to individually buy the watches for you, inspect and photograph it, only to have you decide that some tiny imperfection which you never noticed in the first place, renders the piece unacceptable.

Thanks to all for the observations and the background on this issue. I certainly didn't mean to abuse any privileges with this post. I have read much of what's been posted on this site and others on the PAM111, including some wonderful and detailed analyses and photos by ALE, goin, Klockis and Baxter. I didn't post my QC photos as a cop out or as an attempt to overanalyze the watch, but rather to see if my own, less experienced observations were accurate and fair, and also to see if what I had identified as "flaws" were within the normal range of variance for these models generally accepted by the community. If the flaws (and I did call out some I suspected) fall within that range, then I'm perfectly willing to accept them as normal imperfections. By providing feedback on these norms, I think this group does a valuable service in educating new members (like me), rather than having us reject a watch because it is not 1:1 perfect. To me, that little bit of guidance is worth a lot. My thanks to those who provided it.

I see that the swan neck is touching neither the regulator nor the screw. You are right.

It appears some of the engraving on the back is shallower. Look fine with me.

The blue "I" in "PANERAI" seems a bit smaller than the other letters. Look fine with me.

I'm not seeing any of the CG pin. CG pin look fine.
Are the hands a lighter lume than the remainder? Maybe is the positioning of the watch. Look fine with me.

cheers......:cheese:

There is no standard guideline of range within acceptable condition, there are members here who are so anal that they will inspect their QC photos to find flaws like a forensic specialist looking for evidence and there are also members here who don't even bother to look at their QC photos as they know what they are expecting of a rep watch and they trust their dealer will do them good.

QC photos are for you, if the watch do look good and everything seems fine to you then just accept and enjoy it.
