I have just got my new PAM111 (suppliers name withheld) which was the higher cost version and It arrived more or less DOA

I half wound it and the seconds hand would sweep to the 5 minute mark and then stop and go backwards!!!!! to the 55 minute mark then stop all together. Give it a shake and the same thing would happen. I then pulled out the crown wheel to change the hands and they were very stiff, once I turned them, they loosened up and the second hand started working again, Now the watch stops roughly every 20 mins with the same problem, to start it working again I just adjust the hands and it works for another 20 minutes.

I am waiting for the dealer to get back to me but in the meantime can anyone shed some light on what the problem is.

So then seconds hand changes directions?

I can honestly say I've never heard of that before. I have no idea what's wrong, but this is almost certainly something major enough to mandate a return for replacement, rather than having it fixed locally.

Thats a first. Get it sorted out with the dealer and if they are a trusted dealer here, its a matter of time. If not let the Admin know and it goes forward from there.

Thats the darndest thing Ive ever seen. Are you caught in some tempral distortion somehow? A time vortex>?
J/K
Well thats one for the books and Id be very interested to see what a watchsmith would sy to explain how that happens.

LoL That put a smile on my face, you,re a funny guy. If my backwards working watch makes time go backwards and my grey hairs disappear I might just keep it

Im with watchbuff on this one... Im not sure how the hell the 2nd wheel could be made to go in reverse.
It would need to start with the escape wheel running backwards. And if the escape wheel is running backwards, then the balance assembly would need to be going backwards.
Are you hanging upside down on the South Pole?
I could easily see how it would STOP at the same place... If there was a damaged gear on the 2nd wheel OR an arm was broken off the escape wheel. But neither of these would make it run in reverse.

I've seen it happen a couple of times when the crown stem pushes in too far in the keyless works and screws stuff up. Does it happen when the lever is not engaged and the crown pulled out?

Maby one of the pallet jewels is gone. Just a thought. Hear anything bouncing around in there? That's a cool video BTW, never seen that before.

ok, I've added this to the list of things I have never seen nor heard of.
I dont know how a keyless works issue could affect this, but I dont have anything to add.. sorry..

The lever on the crown guard is a very tight fit so I thought that it could be caused by too much pressure on the wheel so I let it run for awhile with the lever in the open position but it did,nt make any difference.

Interestingly it has now run all night without stiopping and has kept good time, however when I pull the wheel out to adjust the hands either 2 things happen.

1. The wheel just turns with no effect

2. The wheel is very tight to turn then the hands will move and I cannot push the wheel back in. I have to turn hard until it gives, the hands then move and I can push the wheel back in.

This watch seems to have a bucket load of issues yet still works.... sort of. I think its a case of a refund if I can get it as I have no confidence in it ever being right.

Thats going to fun putting that to the dealer!!!!

Another general question

my previous Pam 111s crown wheel sat nice and flush against the case, this one sticks out from the crown by about 1mm. Any ideas why this is?

That just sounds like a matter of cutting the stem to the correct length.

Your original problem is pretty strange and perplexing. I would be curious to disassemble it and see what gives.

Cybee, Im with you on this one... I would love to see this movement taken apart and photographed to see what the cause of this issue is.

[This is the first time I am seeing something like this ...

Watching that gives me vertigo..That is freaky freaky. Maybe a bad or missing tooth in a wheel or bad pallet jewel which I think was mentioned earlier.

As freaky as the watch is behaving, its now for no apparent reason decided to run perfectly fine, no bashing it against the hand for shaking it, I just adjusted the hands and its decided to behave itself. It has been running for the past 36 hrs without any issues, the dealer as I suspected has been great, offered a refund including the postage or a replacement. sh*t happens with these watches but its how the dealer handles the problem which makes all the difference. This wont be the last time I buy from him:)
