Hi guys,

Finally pulling the trigger on a PAM028B by Davisen! This watch has been torturing me for the past 2 months at least, debating whether I should pull the trigger on a more 'expensive' rep and also whether to go with the 028B or the 057. See the initial thread here: http://forum.replica-watch.info/vb/showthread.php?t=200244

Long story short, after much consideration with opinions and recommendations by members here (ALE especially :)), I decided on the 028B mainly because I've yet to own a PVD/DLC coating PAM and the dial on the 028B is 'more accurate' or 'lesser of a tell' compared to the 057 which has somewhat incorrect markers.

Anyway, I shoot David with an email and he was very efficient in his replies to all my queries. There were some miscommunication as he initially thought that I wanted the 028A and sent me pics of the 028A which I rejected and corrected him. A day after that he he sent me new pics of the 028B, but this time, it had incorrect wording on the dial. It was "Marina Militare Power Reserve" instead of the correct "Panerai Laminar Power Reserve". I told him that it was incorrect and 2 days later today, I received the latest QC pics. The is where I need some advice.

I've heard that the PVD/DLC coating by DSN is supposedly one of the best out there. However, by the looks of the QC pics that he sent me, there seem to be uneven coating between the case and the bezel, the outer corner of the lugs and case and also on the lower part of the CG.

There also seem to have a small white dot on the dial near the 1, just above the P and also on top of the 2 marker.

Is this normal or am I just being nit-picky?

Now before I get some heat on posting QC pics, this is my first time posting them so my apologies in advance if I've broken any rules. I'm just concerned about the overall quality as I'm paying a fair bit for this rep.

I hope you guys out there could help me and weigh in with some opinion on this.

Cheers!

You are posting the QC pics for legitimate reasons. QC pics are not allowed if you are just saying "what do you think?" But if you are pointing out potential flaws for discussion (like the PVD finish, printing issues, machining defects, etc...) then you're good.

Here's my comments for you. I have owned (briefly) nearly every DSN power reserve model. The one I kept was the 27A because it is THE most accurate of the group. It is tentatively called a First Class High Grade Rep, one step below super rep. Next most accurate is the 28A, tentatively called First Class Mid Grade, due to the PVD being not accurate to gen, but sharing the same properties of dial accuracy as the 27A. The 27B, however, has the same dial issues that the 57C shares, With inaccurate margins around the dial edge and PVD color that is bit too gray compared to the gen, the 28B should probably be considered a First Class mid to low grade, which is still an extremely nice and accurate rep.

If dial accuracy and PVD is important to you, as you imply above, you should choose the 28A. Not the 28B.

Please see my full review of the 28A and 28B
http://forum.replica-watch.info/vb/showthread.php?t=205085

Now for your observations on the QC pics. All Brand new PVD DSN watches will show this irregularity in the color you see in the photos. It just needs to be wiped down with a damp cloth, that's all... trust me.

The dot is very likely just a spec of dust. Just ask him to recheck the dial and make sure it is just dust.

Finally be patient with David and not demanding and he will take very good care of you.

Thanks for your input Grim :) I think it had been suggested to me in previous thread that I build my own "fantasy super rep" by taking the 028A dial and putting it in the 027 case and have it sent off to a modder (can't remember who) for PVD coating.

While that would undoubtedly give me a "fantasy super rep", I just don't think I can be bothered with the whole process. Besides, I prefer the lume colour and arrow of the PR indicator on the 028B more than the 028A. Added to the fact that David's PVD coating has been so highly recommended is what made me decide to go with the 028B.

Back lack to the QC pics:

Got a reply from David saying the exact same thing you did - case needs to be wiped down and there were dust particles in the crystal. Both of which he will clean it up and show me new pics tomorrow along with some lume shots that he missed out too.

All I can say is so far so good with David. He's been very patient and efficient with me so far so I've got no complaints.

I don't think Ale answered your actual question. In regards to the case colour, I think it's actually fine. That's most likely just grease from hands/handling. If I touch my Panerai 360 right now, it looks like that. I have total faith in DSN delivering a quality product and wouldn't worry!

That's exactly what I answered, I just wrote the most about the dial accuracy.
