Well, after I got the Barbie dream house done, I put the last touches on my PAM009, and wanted to share the pictures with everyone. Let me know what you think.
Started with a standard PVD case that I bought second hand, which I prefered doing because it has a few little nicks and scratches on it to give it a bit of "realism". I wanted to put a Swiss 6497, but decided not to spend the extra scratch because I had a working asian 6497 in an old titanium 176. As a side bar, that movement has worked through thick and thin for almost a year, and he and I have become attatched to eachother. I am sure it will keep on ticking, knock on wood.
The dial also came out of my old 176. The dial in my oppinion needed some work, so i took it off the movement, and decided to add some "depth" to it. The reason being is that on the gen site, one of the pompus gentlemen had a chart of dials, and many of the older ones had a coat of varnish on top of them. Looking at the pictures it seems that it gave the dial a bit of a texture. To achieve this, I first sprayed the dial with a coat of gloss laquer, let it dry, and then gave it two coats of matt laquer. After the laquer hardened, I lightly buffed it with four ought steel wool, then polished it with a cloth and some "goo gone". this gave the dial a very flat finish with some texture. You can see this in the second and third pictures. More so in the third picture.
The hands are stock rep hands. I carefully painted the sides of the hands with flat tremclad to get rid of any luminova residue. This actually made the hands look more genuine if that makes sence.
I added a tall cannon pinion, so no recess problems after re installing it.
The A/R is yellow, which I have read is closer to the genuine.
The crownguard had a pvd pin, so I pushed it up a bit and polished off the pvd so that it is now stainless steel, and flush to the crown guard...again as per the original.
All in all, it took me roughly three months of trial and error to get it to this point. I was meticulous in making sure there was NO dust on the dial, or inside the sapphire.
The lume is standard C3. Nothing special here.
I am really proud of this work. It is my daily beater.
Let me know what you think.
