So of the majority of pics I see around here, almost everyone likes the regular strap with tang buckles. Why is that? I personally prefer a deployant clasp. I always felt like the deployant clasp was simpler to operate, and also more secure to put on and remove. Am I missing something? Or is it simply the fact that the tang buckles allow for more variations in designs and customizations?

I personally have always enjoyed the classic tang buckle, which is why I opted to stay with it. The clasp is cool and all, but it reminds me of the watches I had as a kid. But to each his own though!

The regular strap with tang buckles keeps watches closer to historic Panerais. It is also more practical if you have multiple straps as deployants typically cost more, especially if you don't want to screw/unscrew buckles all time. Also tang buckles come in all kinds of shapes and models, which allows further customization.

I like and own a selection of both; I tend to keep the deployant on more modern pieces or more exotic and expensive straps.

If you can find one, torpedo buckles are fantastic ;) Oh and I cut that piece off that was hanging off. Getting lots of wrist time.

Another thing to think about is comfort. A tang buckle never touches the skin, leaving only leather below the wrist. Leather is soft, flexible and comfortable. I prefer this hands down agains a deployant buckle, which leaves a long metal section against the skin once closed. I've always found that deployants can pinch in some situations. :)

Deployants are a pain, not as many off the shelf strap options, expensive OEM compared to Tang and not historically accurate for PAM lovers that want a watch with a nod & a wink to the heritage of the brand. They are also thinner to work with the deployant.

Having said that, it's s personal choice matter and you should go with what sings to you, it's not a feature of the watch that many see or look at, it's a hidden feature in the main.

Your comment really had me thinking actually. I do get some red marks on my wrist when I wear my deployant. Maybe i should give the regular tang buckles a shot!

Edit: And how does one go about opening a bottle with a tang buckle:unsure: I would hate to scratch my precious goodies. This is actually a serious consideration for me! My new keychain doesn't have a bottle opener:angrier:

You could get a key chain offered by a number of strap makers that are basically part of a strap with a tang buckle.

I think that deployant straps are not for Panerai..only straps with buckle well fit in according to the tradition..
