For any rep straight out from factory, I have read that waterproof is almost nil..

If so, how does one go abt waterproofing the watch? Can it be done DIY?

Only if you got the skill to disassemble the whole case set , and the equipment to do water pressure testing.
It's not easy in fact.

???? Tapatalk ? SM-C900Y ??

Several reputable modders here on the forum can do it for you. I highly recommend to people they do it on any rep they get. That’s just me...

People don't have a correct interpretation of what level of waterproofing TDs do. It is 30m/3ATM, which to everyone who knows about dive watches, just means it can survive an occasional splash, not put the watch under running water (someone actually did it and guess what happened).

If you want to swim with it, have it done by a competent (and rep-friendly) watchmaker

I had my Bronzo 382 water tested before going on vacation last year, It was good for 4 atm right out of the box. That's as far as he went .. maybe it could have been WP for more.
The point I'm making is not that they are mostly waterproof, but that when in doubt .. have it tested !
YMMV.

Just sayin'

I took my PAM508 swimming without any additional sealing. I had no time to get it done and I wanted to use the PAM508 on the Composite strap with dive buckle. I'm not much of a diver so I probably took the watch only up to 3m underwater. Still it passed with flying colors (so it would be rated water resistant from between 5 to 10ATM). But I have never gotten a watch ruined by occasional splashes with water so they are mostly water resistant up to 3ATM. But if you're going to be doing some deep swimming and want to be sure, have it sealed and tested, :)

I have two pams and I shower, swim and snorkle with both. One I had the TD pressure test for me but I subsequently opened the case for an unrelated matter. Greased it up and no probs. The other was entirely DIY and it's also been fine. I used to go to the mall and have everything pressure tested but I have noticed that there are other people there and I don't like other people so I stopped going.

Buy some grease.

Hi,

I've used most of my reps when both swimming and in the shower, I only had a problem with my 508. Unfortunately I didn't open the watch until the dial was ruined so I just ordered a new watch. (I have a working 508 with a bad dial if anyone need parts)

Domi pressure tested my 1389 and it was ok.

My experience is that they are pretty waterproof out of the box, but to be sure it's better to test the watch, as mentioned, I only had a problem with one, of maybe 20-30 reps.

Generally the dive watches are pretty good out of the box, but you need to test to be sure you are not the lucky one with an improperly installed seal or minor imperfection in the case. My 088 passed 5ATM (as high as I tested) and my 111 passed 6ATM. You never know, I had a CrPO which ended up with a crystal not seated correctly causing it to bubble when tested. Had to be repressed and passed 5 ATM without issue.

Well as long as you get it tested, wear it wherever you like. I'm just confused why one would wear a watch to the shower. Do you shower for that long you lose track of time? How about the small area of skin covered by the watch, how would you clean it properly (and after showering, how to rinse and dry it off)? It's like showering with underwear on. Yeah you could and you are entitled to whatever you want to do but why? Maybe it's just me. Or you just meant bring the watch inside the bathroom and not wear it, but still...why?

So when you used to go to the mall...you were the only one there? (Sorry I couldn't resist).

To throw a figure, 90% of reps straight from the factory only have a hand-tightened caseback. You need the univerval caseback-tool to tighten it properly. The same goes for properly silicon-greasing o-rings and gaskets. All this can be done simply and at home.
Check for the dealer waterresistance rating, just as an indicator 100m (often called "factory-waterprooofed") is more indicated for easy swimming than 30 meters or 10.
A simple dry-test in the next mall (or taking the risk on one $400 watch) will do for splashing around a bit.
Anything else (if needed to "do it properly") will cost You and take some time. Have fun.

I usually shower with my watch on in the evening if I wore it exercising. I would always rinse it off afterwards so might as well do it while I'm in there too. Yes, loosen the clasp to clean the wrist as well rinse the caseback and inside of bracelet.

Also for anyone showering at the gym I wouldn't want to leave my watch in the locker.

Well I guess your purpose of wearing the watch is to clean it off at the same time you are (and I can imagine working out at the gym can generate a lot of sweat), fair enough I can understand that.

What watch do you wear at the gym? When I did go to the gym, I only wore my G-shocks.

I haven't been at the gym in over three years because of injuries, I'm working my way up to it. So I've just been working out at home, using my spin bike , and now jogging. For those activities I'll wear whichever I happen to be wearing, tc , bpsd, lmpo. I switched to a seiko orange monster for jogging though because it's more comfortable.

My workouts are significant enough now though that I'm reading to start using the gym facilities. So now I'm going to get a "gym watch", maybe the casio royal one everybody loves. But I really want a g shock square, but the one I really like is $300 USD, it's the one with dlc coated stainless case and screw in case back.

But I agree if you aren't using the shower to actually clean your watch it makes no sense to wear it in there, it just gets in the way.
