Rant: Am I the only one that finds most latest models fugly? And why are the factories no repping the classics anymore? Seems they would make so much more money with the older stuff (which has to be easier to rep anyway) than all the new carbotech BS. For example, a 177 has to be a cake to make compared to any of the newest models that came out in the past one year. I wander how they come up with what to rep. Because if they follow these forums at least a little, it would be easy to see that it is the classics that sell in record time and the new models sit. Rant over ...

Completely aligned with your thinking here...especially as it relates to the classic models. I am intrigued with some of the newer models (esp the blue dial ones), and impressed at how quickly they rep them after introduction from Panerai. I sometimes wonder if the bigger question is “what is Panerai thinking with these newer models?”

I don’t mind the 1661,1662,1663.
But don’t love them enough to shell out the bucks.
Waiting for one to pop up in M2M to try out and hopefully limit the loss on funds to a minimum.

I do remember reading a thread on here on the 1662 which was my fav of the three. I remember being a bit let down with the colours from photos compared to gen. It seemed to lack something/was way off. Haven’t followed up since.

Totally agree. My latest gen purchase was a 915, and that's basically an old school pam with the latest movement. Wouldn't dream of sinking money into carbotech, fibratech etc etc especially after the fiasco that was the failed dalliance with the 339 composite. Which for the record is essentially non stick cookware made into a watch.

Ouch. I’m going to my mailbox tomorrow to pick up my first rep, a PAM799 Carbotech Titanium. That’s ok though. I have like 60 watches in my wishlist, I’m sure I’ll get around to getting other PAMs.

You will love it. 799 is a great panerai. Not all new models are bad. There is something for everyone. I like submersible line including carbotechs.

To be honest I like the all (most of them) old and new.. but, if a factory asked me which line/era of Pams they should rep, I'd opt for the older/vintage line-up.

I think it has to do with demand. Generally people like new watches so they sell more. But we oldies who are used to the classy designs of Panerais with 3 digit reference numbers do not find the new watches appealing.

However XF and Noob have started to release the classics e. g. 000, 005, 111, 127, and 390.

So I say we have a chance of seeing more classic Panerais in the future.

Simple base classics that could be repped easily and IMHO carry some of the essence of the Panerai DNA

Don't know that I find the newer ones revulsive, but I do like the simpler, classic ones, both rep and gen.
Gen: 055c; 112e; 1024; 372
Rep: too many to write...

Agreed. I am on the panerai mailing list and I wander if the brand has lost its way a little. It could be I'm old skool and haven't moved with the times but I agree the simplicity of materials and design are what attract me. That said some of the new models with in house movements are cool
