PAM "Fiddy" versus "Marina Militare" Homage?

Here's a question for those PAM aficionados much smarter than me: I've been very happy with a DNS Marina Militare, had a strap custom-made for it and it's a beautiful watch with a distinct statement that it's a homage timepiece. I'm looking at getting a simple PAM 1950 (fiddy), having seen a drop-dead beautiful posting a few days ago (Panerai Porn). But here's the thing: are these two watches essentially the exact same body design with a different face?

In retrospect, I'm thinking of selling the Marina Militare and going for the Fiddy but I'd be grateful for anyone smart-enough to say "yep they're the same body and movement" or "no, there are distinctions". Anyway, thanks in advance.

You're absolutely right. The differences at the end of the day are mainly in appearance but it goes beyond simply the dial. You're talking about the movement with engraved bits here and there, the possibly more accurate case set, an improved lume/hands possibly compared to your old watch, etc.

Other than this the only diffrence is in the semantics of a "replica" or "fake" watch versus an "homage" watch.

One would argue that wearing the Marina Militare watch can be appreciated in its own value as opposed to wearing the replica which may be more to possibly deceive.

Personally I have a few replicas, a few of what might be considered "homage" watches, and a few other genuine branded watches so I like them all.

If having a Fiddy is your thing then I say go for it! The ones coming out of the replica factories are looking mighty fine and for less than $400 you can get yourself a great out of the box model.

Now that was a friggin' great and well-considered reply. Thank you so much. It speaks to the heart of the potential mine-field we walk through in wearing high-end replicas. My friends know I can't afford a $35,000 A. Lange and Sohne or even a $20,000 Patek and I wouldn't even try. But I'm not beyond wearing a modded PAM 111H that retails for around $6500.00 if Gen but I'm out 800.00 all up with a beautiful rep. If anyone asks, I tell the truth. Having seen the latest Fiddy, I'm thinking a) I can get away with wearing it and b) if anyone asks, I'll tell them where I got it. Thanks!
