I recently acquired a 028 that has a case back that is missing the first "I" in Officine. Anybody know if it is possible to source a new back from any of our experts? Or do any of our modders do Panerai font engraving? Thanks.

I would have a word with the dealer that you got it from...he should be able to source a new one free of charge if they are a reputable dealer on RWI. If not, keep an eye out on the 'rep sales' section for a case back. If there is a space between the O and C...you could get a trophy store to do it i guess.

It's not from one of the experts on here. I thought about taking it to get it engraved, but I don't want some bonehead who is not used to watches to make an irreversible mistake. Since nobody is making the 028's any longer, I figured getting a case back will be tough. I want to send it out for new PVD, but don't want to do it until the problem is fixed.

Can you post the photo ?

Also, is it definitely the caseback and not the rotor that's missing letter "I" ?

If you open your watch (assuming it's the 28A with ETA 2892-A2 mov't) you'll notice that rotor is missing letter "I" as well in "OFFICiNE", and is engraved as "OFFICNE".

:)

Yep, it's definitely the caseback. Luckily there is space bewtween the "F" and the "C." It's like it was skipped on purpose. Very odd. I'll try to post a photo tonight when I get home from the office. I found a local jeweler who is willing to do it. I took a close look at the other engraving and I really don't think it should be that difficult to copy.

Other than that and the need for a real PVD job and re-lume, the watch is great.
