So i pulled the trigger on pam968. Bought it locally. And when i saw it, damn its a nice looking watch. Yes i know the markers have green lume, but its still awesome. The build quality is superb.

How do u remove the patina on the bronze? Ive seen slme people use ketchup, 7up with lemon, and some baking soda. I want to reset the patina so that its clean and shiny. So which of the method above is the best? Can anyone give me suggestion please.

Definitely need to change the strap!

Here are some pics:

Good day! Congratulations on your purchase!

You can remove the patina with any of the listed compounds.
In this case, the decisive factor is the high acidity of the solution. I prefer Coca-Cola, I can add lemon juice to it. No complicated calculations, just by eye.
Keep it on for ~ 10 minutes, then rinse the watch under clean running water, clean the watch with a toothbrush, for example, with the same baking soda, or without, just soap.

Next, repeat this procedure as many times as necessary to achieve the desired effect.

It is necessary to consider:
The watch must be relatively waterproof. Check all gaskets and screw connections. I did all this on a watch that was NOT professionally waterproofed, but solely at my own peril and risk.
Do not keep the watch in the solution for too long.
Do not use rough materials for mechanical cleaning, there is a possibility of ruining the finish.
And yes, my watch was quite old, patinated to a stone state and completely cleaned again many times, but I have never been able to return exactly the original state of the watch, as it looks in the pictures of the dealer, solely by chemical means.
I can see that there are not many dark areas on your watch, and I think you will be fine, do not worry.

Also, you can look into the branches on these occasions, see pictures and read what others have used, in fact, there are quite a few compositions suitable for this.

KOT1917 thanks for the fast response.

So its coke + lemon ina cup, and then submerge the watch head for 10 mins, and then rinse + brush the watch head? And lastly watch with soap?

How do u check the gasket and crown to know its waterproof? I have no equipment for testing it.

Thanks!

You are welcome.

Yes, in general, you understood everything correctly.

How to check: in short, for sure, no way.
You can simply remove the backcase, CG crown, make sure that the gaskets are intact and not worn, soak with grease if necessary, put everything back, make sure that all screw connections are tightened firmly and evenly, that the lever of the crown presses the crown tightly against the tube, and hope for the best. :)
In fact, I first, quickly wash all my watches with soap, after receiving and carrying out this procedure, and I do not remember that there were any problems.
However, this is a rep, and without professional waterproofing and testing, no one promises anything.

If you have any concerns, you can make a paste from soda, or lemon juice, smear the watch in it, and brush it with a soft brush. So the probability of moisture leakage is reduced to 0, but the process is also more time consuming.

Some people use ketchup for this purpose, because it has a thicker structure, and will not get inside the watch, even when fully immersed.
But I do not like its effect (maybe I have bad ketchup lol), and in any case, you will have to wash it under running water with soap in any case.

My 968 had far more 'forced' patina on it than yours does and I tried several different methods to get it back to near it's original finish. I found that the heavily acidic solutions left a slightly pink finish to the bronze. The best result for mine was achieved using a soluble denture cleaning product called Polident.

Regarding checking to see if the watch is waterproof - submerge it in water; if it leaks its not waterproof ;) Seriously though - the only way to check is to send it to your preferred rep watch specialist.

It's a tablet that you just place in a container with the watch & cover with drinking water. The tablet will bubble and dissolve for about 2-3 minutes. Rinse & dry the watch.

This is how mine looks now - after several months since cleaning. The picture shows more of a pink shade than it is in real life.

Well, do you like it, is this what you wanted?
Please mention how long they have been swimming and what you have done besides submerging them, pulling them out and washing them with water.
*Check them now periodically for fogging crystals, although, I hope and believe that this will not happen.

I like how it turned out actually. So clean and shiny. Would be better if its a tad darker (dipped too long i guess). Gotta wear it more often now :)

So i poured coke + lemon in a bowl, and let it sit for 10mins. After that i picked it up and brush the parts that still have some leftovers.
And then dip it for another 5mins. After that i rinse and brushed with soap and dry them of with paper towel.

I hope there's no fogging LOL!

Thanks for the detailed description, I'm glad that you got exactly what you needed.

It turned out to be a good and illustrative example.

The change in shade is also a reaction, don't worry, they will come to the tone that you want to see ideally.

I wish you good luckin the further use of your new watch!

The case is completely bronze.
In order to re-satin it with no less quality, you need a certain skill.
Think before doing this.
I have seen enough examples when, when trying to remove the patina, the case was polished, and this is a sight, frankly, for an amateur.
If you do not talk about a heavy multi-colored patina, under which no finishing is visible at all, then light and beautiful, it develops best on the factory satin finish.
In general, bronze is a soft metal, and you can satin it.

Good to know they are full bronze! There is a little scratch mark that i want to brush using scotch brite pad. Gotta be a little careful while doing this.

Thanks! KOT1917 very informative as always!

Here is a step by step process on how i remove the scratch. I have done rebrushing on my rolex so i have a little knowledge on how to brush.

So here are the steps.

The scratch i was talking before (very visible to the eyes) :

I cut a scotch pad and stick it to a diamond file with a tape so i can have more control on the curves:

Taped the watch so that i dont accidentally brush the unwanted surface:

And quite happy with the final result. Oh and i brush all 4 sides so that they have a uniform brushed look:

Back to mint condition :)
