Just wanted to share a fews pics of my 5218-201A. Vaccum swapped the dial, did the cannon pin fix, and serviced the Unitas movement. Before the service I was lucky to get 24 hrs power reserve and it ran slow. Now, its one of my best time keepers with +/- 60 hrs power reserve. Proper service from Vaccum makes a huge difference! Hope you enjoy the pics.

Cheers!

Fixed the cannon pin? This didn't come from Davidsen with the cannon pin already fixed???

I can't wait to get my 036 back from vaccum, all super-lumed and serviced! Nice timepiece. I *need* to get a 201A. I think it's my next purchase after the 082.

I'm hot for a NM 201A myself and have a few q's for the experts. If this is hijacking the thread, let me know and I'll start a new one.

I notice that the font on this davidsen dial is too bold and that the 6's and 9's aren't quite "closed" enough. I seem to recall seeing some older dials from him that seemed better in this regard. Were there other flaws on those dials that outweigh the flaws on this one?

Davidsen seems so willing to get things right, I'm surprised that this is the latest version.

That said, I'm a bit new to the game with regard to this piece and others I'm sure are much better at spotting this stuff, so if I'm wrong, I'll shut up.

There are some wonderful pics of gens in this thread over on 'Risti.

Does davidsen offer this piece in, and I hate to even write this, Swiss ETA?

Lastly, does anyone offer aftermarket aging of the lume? Or, is it just a custom aged color from the dealer?

Thanks in advance.

Daviden's Swiss is genuine Swiss and is an unmodified 6497. It is hidden by the caseback so doesn't matter.

I own both versions of this watch from Davidesen and they are beautiful.

After seeing that gen on that link you showed me, I am quite happy with the second version that I own as the dial is not at all as bad as some people have mentioned--it's quite good.

The new dial print is a bit too bold. The old dial print was even more too thin. Pick your poison.

I don't think he changed the cut outs on the new dial compared to the old, so they are what they are.

Being as he's the only game in town for a 201A, you don't have much of a choice.

FWIW, I think the new dial is closer to being correct, but if you're jonesing for the old dial, Davidsen still has some (or at least he did a month or two ago). He'll build it up either way for you, I'm sure.

@ wahwahweewah

I am glad you liked the work done! You are welome any time.

@ peepshow

Actually this one came with a short cannon pinion and the hands scratched the dial.

Very nice- any dial mods? If not then SN has moved from a pinkish-cream to more yellow tones. I assume this is DSN's 3rd gen dial? Font looks a wee bit thick, but then, it's not like I've seen too many gens, so can't speak to font variances (which I'm sure exist), as enzo has pointed out many a time.

Howdy BBB,

No dial mods, just a swap. That's the way it came from Davidsen. The dial I replaced had more of an orange tone. Here's another pic of the dial without the crystal attached (taken by Vaccum).

Nice sammy, @wahwah. Without the AR it looks a lot creamier - like an English country gal's cheek :D
