Hi all

I recently bought a pam 512 from a dealer on this forum. It worked great for a week or two but now has essentially died.

The problem is that when I give it a full wind (say around 80/100 turns) it stops after about 30 minutes.

Any idea what this could be and if it's repairable or should I just consider it a crappy piece that was sold to me??

80 to 100 turns? That sounds like am awful lot. Are you turning it clockwise when facing the crown? Some of my watches wind the other way so I had that problem with my first rep, it would just stop after a good wind. Realised I needed to wind it the other way, now it works fine. Try winding it the other way

Yeh I've tried it with various amounts of turns and in both directions. Any ideas if this is worth repairing or should I throw it away?

I think the 512 Gas a automatic movement without a rotor ... so you can wind aus mutch als you want. There will be no stop.

Basically the bits that turn your turning the crown into winding of the spring. In manual 6497 movements it is s simple matter that people often mess up.

I think it's not the handwinding Unitas clone. Another unnamed handwinding movement. Would like to know the exact name of this handwinding movemen. Experts are welcome.

"The watch is equipped with A23J Tianjin movement"

Got it from another board. Copy+Paste. It might help to understand the functions and problems of the movement. Good luck.

If you can wind it that much and you're only getting 30min of runtime, the mainspring could be broken. I had a 6497 that I could wind infinitely because the mainspring was broken somewhere in the middle of it, I suppose. I could give it about 20-25 winds and I would hear an abnormal click. No matter how much I wound it, it would only have a PR of little over a day.

Yes these aren't 6497 movements sorry if it sounded like that. I meant to say that it sounds like a similar issue experienced on 6497 and in such cases it is an easy fix for a watch maker. I have fixed my own.

I know they're not 6497, but the mainspring still work the same... I was just using my 6497 as an example. Point being, if you can wind it 100 times and get 30min of use, it could be a broken mainspring.

So is the only solution to take it apart and see if the spring is broken?

Ok so this is what happens

I wind it it starts working and then it randomly stops. All I have to do is pull the knob and change the time slightly (I.e move the hands) and it starts working again

Any advice on how to get this crap fixed? Bought it from a 'supporting vendor' who doesn't offer any warranty

Did you try bringing it to a watchsmith?
It might be an easy fix, maybe the hands are catching each other slightly in some positions?

I would send it off to Katt for a look... He's in the watchmakers section
