PAM 425 Super Clone - Quick review and PIC HEAVY

Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.
-Leonardo da Vinci

Good evening team,

Rediscovered my photo bucket account. Simple review to follow! Teaser shot...yes,, in SAPPHIRE. *Note: Credit to Kilowatorre for the review template, hope you don't mind brother; prefer the simple and sweet, pics vs text anyday. Didn't have the right lense today, so just iPhone 5S pics today, guys...

Model: PAM 425 Super Clone
Maker: Whoever the SC maker is
Movement: Super Clone 3 day
Dealer: M2M

As a PAM Gen owner since '04, I've owned plenty of Gens and was over the moon this was piece was being Super repped. Forgive me, I'll start by saying I'll leave the Gen comparison pictures to the experts and this post will be limited to the pictures of the reps and my thoughts, I hope it helps for those curious.

The strap is from an unknown maker, in fact, if anyone can help identify, that'd be a huge help for me since it is my absolute favorite strap at the moment; thick and quality, just like I like them; and I've seen a few. (Not a Kostas),, I digress...

Case set: 47mm Stainless steel Radiomir case is executed extremely well and I did visit a Tourneau to see the Gen again the other day. This case set is quality especially around the bezel. T

Crystal: This is the Sapphire version (Unsure why an SC would be produced with a mineral crystal) which tips the price into the low 500's which puts it at the more expensive side of the spectrum.

Strap: I didn't bother to post; cheap Asso strap and the buckle quality seems to be of normal rep quality

Crown: Execution was done well, albeit the Gen will be ever so slightly crisper. The caseback is made of Sapphire (phew) and impressive with a gen like feel on the wrist and in the hand. The crown screws in solidly and looks to be the same as the OEM. I cannot comment on any notches,, bottom line, this is a non issue from the wrist perspective.

Dial: Spot on in Color and dial texture in my opinion. The Torpedo looks fine to me , but there may be a slight difference from the Gen, however, I couldn't tell from cursory inspection, maybe someone else could chime in here. The lume color is fantastic, and the text cutouts crisp and accurate. If I were nitpicking, I'd say , although matte, the paint in the Gen seemed to be flatter or more matte than the rep or the Gen cutouts slightly deeper; again, this is for the OCD. The hand hands are clean, crisp and of the right dimesions; the edges appear to be slightly rounded, although, this is probably cleaner on the gen. The torpedo appears to be done well, but again, I'm sure it's executed to perfection in the Gen; definitely not noticeable on the wrist. There is an engraving on the inside of the rehaute S.L.C. that is accurate to Gen and done well, failed to get a good pic and so it wasn't included. L SWISS L at the 6 o'clock position appears to be good as well.

Lume: Lume is good, and glows well and at the right shade. I have not seen the Gen light up yet.

Crystal: The Gen is outfitted with Sapphire; unsure of the Gen AR. The shape is great and it domes ever so slightly. It is a quality sapphire, but I'll say the Gen is slightly clearly or potentially even thinner. The AR is a slight faint blue I failed to capture and only seen in certain angles. If it were up to me I'd have no AR, and cannot attest to the Gen.

Casback and Movement: Caseback is done well with good and accurate engravings; the crystal is sapphire and overall has a convincing feel off of the wrist. I've seen Gens and reps and this new SC movement is a great step forward; definitely would have no problem showing to most of the population, including 'ristis; trust me,, I've met a lot of them all of the world. The winding action of the movement is tough on my piece; fairly resistant and doesn't go for more than 48 hrs at the moment; I'm happy with it; and the resistance is becoming less and less, maybe break in? Non issue for me as long as ticks for over 40 hrs and so far keeping good time.

Overall impression: RECOMMEND - This feels Gen on the wrist. One of the improvements in the rep game seems to be accuracy in dimension and for the Rads, a big tell a while back was wire lug distance from the case; small detail, but this one looks to be spot on; closer than farther away from the case.

This aftermarket strap definitely pulls the package together with its thickness in at the lug side (LOVE THIS; to all strapmakers pay attention!); and definitely recommend the chunky ones if you got 'em.

I might improve torpedo cutout and consider a different AR if it were up to me, but they aren't deal breakers in my opinion, just wants/wishes. Hope this helps, if anyone has questions, please PM me, happy to help. Thanks to the MODS and Forum contributors as always; we're all busy, but you bring immense value to this game. I'm impressed with this site and have recently started coming back into it.

I will admit, being pretty fanatical about gen PAMS and now reps just adds to the overall enjoyment of the hobby, bar the "good or bad / right or wrong" perspective,, this is barrels of fun. Kudos to the factories and all of the TDs active on the site; mucho appreciation there U BET,, ^^v (lol) Hope this helped...now on to Q&A...

...and a BONUS LUME shot of my 372 NOOB...for my people that stay to the end of the movie credits^^V

Really nice watch, I like it a lot. If only it could be less expensive in Sapphire version..

Very nice watch and great write up mate, finally we have some first hand impressions for this rep!

Hands look way better than in dealers pics, gold color seems very nice.

Regarding case shape there is only one thing that's not clear to me: the cushion shape looks good, but to my eye the angles are not as "pointy" as they should be.

Surely an impressive watch with a striking dial and a very good looking movement on the back, wear it well and thanks for sharing! :)

What do you guys think about the "Radiomir Panerai" inscription? IMO, compared with the gen, the rep inscription looks way more "yellow" & the gen is more sand-colored.
A photo of the rep with a different light and angle would be great to clear that.

Thanks 4chibis for this detailed review and nice pics

We have got now a better idea about this rep thanks to your review and pics.
Without doubts a First Class rep at the same level of PAM 448 and 449 and even nicer as watch.
Maybe the engraved inscriptions and the PIG (both never perfect) could downgrade a bit this rep in relation to 448 and 449

The squared corners of cushion shape, commented by mysterio, is another thing of which I'm concerned. After seeing many pics , dealer catalogues and QC pics I think this corners are hit and miss, even in the same case. I have seen perfect corners and very squared ones for the same model.
Therefore we should assume this is a non consistent feature of these watches (448,449,424 and 425). We would need to be lucky getting sharp corners. Fortunately for me mine are really good

Rep points added

Thanks again
ALE

Good look K, here's a couple more pics in the daylight, tell me what you think, I've owned RADs in the past and the angles are on point, especially at the bezel; I took it as you were looking at the corners and how sharp they were, so I took these for you in hopes of shedding some light; let me know...

Thanks for the additional pics mate :)

The radiomir case is I think the most difficult one to catch in a pic, as it seems to change shape depending on how the light catches it.

Anyway it's clear from the front pic that the overall shape of the case is great, regarding the corners I'm still unsure as in first pic it looks perfectly shaped, while in second, third, and even more in sixth pic, the corner looks a bit more squared.
I can't wait to receive my 448 and compare it with these pics, thanks again.

Btw the strap looks very good indeed, true vintage threefold construction :)

Maybe there is a misunderstanding here

Kilo is talking about the corners encircled in GREEN on below pic

In the schema at the right side the squared corner is marked in BLUE

Hope this help and clarifies the matter

Thanks Ale, so K and Ale , I'm holding the watch in my hand and you're right the pictures don't show the sharpness of the corner point created; it's not razor sharp, but definitely not as exaggerated as "squarely" as the pic leads Ale to depict... (very cool graphic btw Ale!).

Thanks ALE, that's exactly what I meant :)

Anyone able to ID the maker of this strap?????

Unless you find some kind of print in the under side of the strap it's almost impossible to know for sure who's the maker.
I have a similar strap from bakeka mounted on my bronzo:

Bakeka straps got it Ale looks fat and vintage just like I like it. This strap does not have any stamp on the back it's the weirdest thing. Confirmed with Kostas it's not his work and Bakeka straps are stamped. The hint continues but I'll be looking into the Bakekas, thanks !

That strap looks a lot like a gunny ammo strap to me... I have one on my 127 and it looks like that's what you might have...

Hows the superclone movement? I've read alot about instability and timekeeping. For example the variations.
- Fully wound it keeps good time, however as it loses power the timekeeping dramatically increases and increases and increases. Are you experiencing this?
