PAM 390 build ideas...

So, picked up a great PAM 390 H Factory the other day. I have this Gen Swiss 6498 movement and was starting to think...

I was thinking maybe to put that movement into the 390 replacing the 6497. I was then thinking of finding a Gen crown and having the CG reworked or find a Gen one.

Also, wasn't sure what hand set was the best, but thinking to find whatever factory had the best hands.

Is this not something to do in replacing the movement? Meaning, does it really make any difference? I am trying to sell it and just think it won't sell and thought it would be unique to put into a 390...

So, asking what you all think! Also reference as to having the H Factory and what else I would need to make this a superior rep?

Nobody?

What if I had a 372? Has the clear back on it. Would be kinda cool to have that movement in there. I would think I would be better off doing it to the 390. But wanted to feel it out...

As for the 390, its a very good rep out of the box, i would not (and will not do) it. Not even for the movement, as the A6497 is a solid workhorse, there is no big difference in the endresult with the closed caseback

And 372 uses normally inhouse movement. To put a plain 6498 in it and then a clear caseback does not make sense neighter. I would wear them as they are and after some time decide, which one will be the keeper. Beat the hell out of the A6497 and when its done, replace with the swiss one. For the 372 - on top, would put engraved closed caseback. Gives a vintage feeling to the watch

Well, all PAM390s from H-fac, Noob and KW are super rep category. It is mainly the hands that need to be replaced. From what I read before, it is ironically hands from DSN (whose PAM390 is only at first class level) that have the best gold color.

Yes, unless you can find gen hands which would be so much better (though more expensive and harder to find).

Is there a source for Gen parts? I know obviously one can go to a dealer or similar, but was thinking more along the lines of individuals vs. dealers.

Sometimes gen parts come up on M2M (probably more in the Supporter section but what do I know LOL) or on Risti.

I would presume there is. But like I said, I wouldn't know. :shuffle:

Hi mate, I built perhaps 25-30 Pam 390s in the past. It was one of my preferred pammies to custom, mod and enhance.
Imho my best build mix is:

Middle case: Noob V4
Crown guard: Noob V4 or Noob V3 with HF lever (CG pin needs to be replaced with a slightly softened KW)
Crown: KW / V6F
Sapphire crystal: DSN latest batch from France
Dial: KW / V6F (the best is HF first batch, no longer available from years)
Hands: Noob or, if not available, HF
Caseback: the best is Noob, if not available HF or KW

To reach an excellent result, the case needs to be polished again with care and the cannon pinion flattened and polished.

Hello Bozz and all,

I have the same idea as you and would like to mod a Noob PAM 005 V4 with HF Lever and HF Crown.

I heard somewhere saying that the HF lever might not fit into Noob's CG (too loose).

Are there any challenges when changing the fat crown to HF's?

Need advise on this :D

@Bozz did state that HF Lever with the Noob V3/V4 CG would work fine. To compensate for the crown thickness, there is a hex screw underneath the crown which you can adjust to fine tune the lever snap.
