PAM 292 screws and tubes driving me mad!

hi there, I may be the only mad one out there but the fiddly screws on my 292 has been driving me insane over the past 1 month.

the watch is perfect, but changing straps is a real pain :spank::spank:

so what happened last week was that i failed to secure the screws on my watch well and one screw tube came loose and dropped out in the car park grassy patch. the screw was thankfully still sitting in the watch but the watch had fallen to the grass patch below. my heart almost stopped! would have been worse if it gave way on a hard pavement floor. Scratches would have been inevitable!

needless to say i could not find the stupid screw tube in the grass and sourced for a replacement online. The TDs did not have stock on hand so i bought it off ebay for about 25-30 bucks

what i want to show you guys is that the online screw tube and screws are probaly meant for the gen 292. the screw tubes will fit the rep 292 but the screws which are fatter won't.

the pict shows the rep screws (on the left )and tubes while the one on the right was what i bought online

in the end, I used the "gen like" screw tube and coupled it with my rep screws. the gen tubes are much much sturdier but have a shiny black rather than a matt black appearance

the result is not as aesthetically pleasing. there is now a wider gap between the strap and the watch body using the "gen like" tubes (top end of watch) vs the orig rep screws and tubes (lower end)

well, i am just waiting for my TD to resupply me with those proper rep screws and tubes now.

this thread is just a source of info for those who are considering buying their 292 tubes online

And that is why I will never buy another rad again. Had gone though this pain plus a screw in crown crap a few times in the past, resulting in my resolve not to touch rad reps...

I ordered a set from Panatime and ended up with the gap as well. The screws are alright and definitely better than the rep ones. I have since applied loctite and the watch has been so far so good. I love my 292J.

Yep, loctite is the key once you fiddle with the lugs and get it just right. Strap changing is a bitch, and something I don't do often. I have the 292 and paired it with an OEM JV nubuck strap. I don't forsee ever changing it.

I replaced my rep Rad screws with Panatime screws and have had no issues at all since on a 380 and a 282N. The installation was done with a sharp 1.4mm Bergeon screwdriver and I did not use loctite. I think the earlier you switch out the rep screws for the Panatimes the better because the threads in the case will wear out with the constant re-tightening the rep screws demand.

hey, i went to the panatime website and realized that the screws are the exactly same ones I purchased online via ebay (cept mine were shipped from texas).

these ones are bigger in diameter than the orig rep ones and wont fit in my 292 and I did not want to force it in for fear of wrecking the screw threads.

shucks

The screws from Panatime fit my 292J no problems. Yes, they look larger but fit just fine. You would probably need a burgeon screw driver for the job.

ok done. thanks

had to remove the little rubber O rings in the screws but its done. it sits taller than the rep screw but its secure

the gap between the strap lugs and my watch is now definitely wider, so maybe I just need a new strap which is thicker at the lugs... lol

I had a very similar thing happen to me with my 292J.

I purchased the lugs from panatime, but I found that I thought they stuck out too much.

Little dremel work fixed that. I cut it off at the groove that was in the panatime lugs, and then made my own groove a little from the end. I also used the bic pen mod instead of the original lug coupling.

Seems to be working good for me so far.

Nice solution. The Silix 3646 case (used for many vintage builds) has strap lugs that extend maybe twice as far out from the case as the 292J contemporaries. Maybe that is why it never bothered me how far out the strap bars extended on Radiomirs.
